...more than a few street miles (7500 on this filter), but no excuse..looks like it will need more frequent attention in the future...that is a layer of crud totally covering/blocking off the filter....no visible foam to speak of, until you scrape it with your fingernail (a few times!)

With the stock filter i actually was able to feel a difference when it clogged, but this one happened slowly, thru the season when i was riding it constantly, and for whatever reason i did not notice much difference (possibly a lot of air still gets around the filter) - the shop is doing the 15,000 mile service on it now, so i'll learn more soon

Its amazing with all that gunk on it you didn't notice any difference. Great filter.

Oooh that would suck if it bypassed the filter though and got in. Is that the MWR filter?

right...exactly...i'm not sure how it would get by though..but does make you think :)

yes....mwr

Hmm. If the bike ran good I wouldn't sweat it. When they verify that it didn't get past you should be the new spokesman for MWR lol.

the bike ran fine...towards the final miles, i was getting some spit/burble/& pops (i admit, enjoyable)...but the valves needed a shim or 2....so i'd attribute it to the valves....other than that.."like a swiss watch" :D

Then dude that is an amazing filter. And nothing sounds better than a Duc spitting and popping lol.

same here, as i posted in the MWR air filter cleaning time thread.

i guess at least twice a year from now on...

...just guessing right now....but i'm thinking @3000 miles (why not do oil as well) then 7500 (since it would be in the shop)

-- to me it looked like it was time to toss the filter, but it gets cleaned and oiled :)....i'm going to search out your thread Phil

I would imagine - IF one had an issue with the air filter, such as allowing particles into the engine, and IF one had been running an aftermarket filter, and IF there was damage to the engine as a result of particles entering the engine - then it is quite possible that one would have potential problems having the damage repaired under warranty.

Hopefully, everything is OK with your bike.

If this, and If that, and then If further that.... I usually think there are a lot of "if's" in a line when there's 1, but 3? lol

:)

Anyhow, it looks like the filter did it's job perfectly, and it looks like you should clean your filter a little more often, as you're clearly not riding in conditions that would lend to a less frequent servicing interval.

It is now perfectly clean, refreshed & renewed - funny thing is I knew it needed a refresh, but my shop wanted a drop off, to do it....I didn't want to do the drop off and run back to pick it up dance, so I just kept riding it - that's a full 7500 miles of accumulation....clearly not acceptable to leave it that way....

The service update showed the internals were fine - the filter did its job keeping debris on the correct side of the filter :)

Awesome, I'm glad it did it's job as well as expected, but if you're unwilling to drop your bike off at the shop, just do it yourself.

Removing the filter only takes about 5 minutes, include time to clean, oil, dry, and reinstall, and it's still less than 30 minutes of actual work (not counting drying time).

I wonder how many people have clogged air filters. My dealer always ticks inspected/cleaned but It clearly hasn't been, stilll leaves & bugs in there & end up doing it myself. I went with a BMC filter (similar/same as K&N I think), has anyone done a direct comparison with the MWR filter? Might look at it for the 1299.
