I'm looking for information on the aluminum thermostat bypass for the 1199/1299 platform for anyone that has used one. I'm thinking of running one on my 1299 as the stock thermostat squirter unit is leaking again but wasn't sure about its application in Street use because of potential coolant dwell time with the stock water pump. I'd imagine on a cool day a little radiator tape can help regulate coolant temp as it does on our race bikes, I'm just not sure if coolant will move too quickly and not pull heat out of the engine if everything else is stock. Any insight is appreciated.

I ran an aluminum thermostat bypass on my former 1299, so I can share some thoughts. The stock squirter leaking is a known pain, and the bypass fixes that for good.

For street use, it worked fine overall, but you’re right to think about coolant flow and temps. Without the thermostat, coolant circulates constantly, so on cooler days, the engine can take longer to warm up and might run colder than optimal. I used a little radiator tape when needed, which helped keep things stable, but it’s not as seamless as the stock setup.

As for coolant moving too quickly, I didn’t run into problems with the stock water pump. The system seemed to handle heat extraction well enough, even in warmer conditions. That said, it’s worth keeping an eye on your temps, especially in stop-and-go traffic
For me, it was a worthwhile trade-off for the reliability boost. Hope this helps you decide
