Looks really good to me from this angle

God that looks good. Track bike.

I felt sorry for the Yamaha guys...

The emotional level that Ducati's CEO transferred at the presentation was many levels above the competition.

Rossi and Lorenzo came over like clowns with all the pretending and such...

Ducati's CEO has good reason to be emotional... they're getting their arses kicked in every class of racing except Superstock (and hardly anyone will watch Superstock). :D

Given that I like professional racing (mostly MotoGP)...For normal mortals like us, its about what the company produce for street bikes...having said that, Yamaha and Honda is lacking in that department.

Yamaha and Honda are lacking in streetbike sales compared to Ducati?

Talking more about what they have in racing and making it down to the production bikes.

Same arguments can have with cars with Honda vs Super cars as an example. So, Honda has high sales in cars so I'm going to buy Honda? ...no not really.

I can give .... about numbers in sales.

Rossi answering the question about whether riding the new R1 was better than ... was hilarious though.

I brought up sales because that's probably how they measure whether or not they're producing streetbikes that people want to own.

lots of people want/have a honda civic with high sale numbers...different people want different things...but I know that is not comparable to what we are talking about.

but yamaha and honda seem to bringing it on...Finally! I am excited to see what honda bring out.

Having owned a 2002, 2006 and 2012 R1, I must say I am excited for the hardware changes, but it is the first ugly R1 Yamaha has ever made. I simply could not plunk down $21k for a bike that unsightly.

I absolutely love this model, i don't know why exactly but there is something in the design that make this bike very appealing to me, maybe it is the closest bike in term of look to moto gp compared to others brands, maybe the lack of soul and the pure function over form, maybe the bold move Yamaha did to one of the most known names in motorcycles, maybe and maybe and maybe ,,,,,,,,

I have loved R1's since 1998 and I have had two R1's and I was so excited about this new one since I heard talk two years ago ! I couldnt believe my eyes , WTF a face only a mother could love , I am keeping my Sp she is sexy , art on two wheels and after seeing the way some new bikes are going so glad I bought her ! I know this is bad but I have the Yamaha symbol on my forearm and I was embarrassed lol ( just my thougts as a ex R1 guy ) you need a bike that when you get off after a blast you look back at her and everytime can't believe how sweet she is ! Maybe it will take time to see the beauty but don't think so not very mean looking wish no small round lights .

I'm still excited to see it in person. Last R1 I had was actually its predecessor a '97 YZF1000R I believe. That was a wonderful machine. I still love my Duc, but I'm really happy with all the goodies coming out to sportbike enthusiast.

If I had a bottomless wallet, I'd also have a Hypermotard, R Nine T, MV 800 Dragster and yes, this new R1. Guess I'll have to "settle" for my sexy-... 1199 for now. I'd still pass on the s1000R though... But the HP4, yeahhhh I'd take one of those. :)

I think everyone on the planet want's a McClaren P1 but "wanting" something is only part of the equation..."budget" also come's into play ;)

Yup, some tasty stuff on show; looks like 200+HP tethered to an IMU is the new black. The new Apes look good, (particularly in light of Guintoli's recent championship for marketing clout), and I like the new R1 despite it's questionable snout. Looks like they really slimmed it up a lot and focused on the right things. It promises to be very user-friendly, and I expect to see a lot of 'em running around making growly, small-block noises with Akra's.

Not at all excited by the RC213V-S though. Sounds odd to be saying this, but it just looks like an RC213V with some road bike parts on it. In other words, not anything particularly relevant to the mainstream liter sportbike buyer, even if it's basically a detuned, street-legal RCV1000. Likely just going to be too spendy to be relevant other than a halo product for the very few. Honda need to show us a modern equivalent to the RC51; effectively what SBK cred can they bring to road market at $20K or not far from it, which is what Yamaha have sort of done with M version of the R1.

I think the H2 is basically a marketing tool and the RC is a dreamer's bike, so good on Yamaha for bringing real, mainstream product online. Nice to see some life in Japan again in any case; they've weathered some tough years, and have too much to bring to the party to stay away so long.

I'll just have one of each... ;)

PS - anyone notice the "RS" 10's on the new R1? New rubber from Bridgestone, coming to a dealer near you!

The wheels are forged magnesium or cast? That certainly is a first for a DOT road bike.
