I listed my initial impressions here:

http://ducati1299.com/ducati-1299/25331-my-initial-impression-1299-s.html

I have yet to get back on my R1 since buying the S, and I have yet to start returning the R1 to stock.... need to get on that.

Of course she came home totally stock:

First thing I had to do was get rid of the undertail (NRC was my choice since the MotoDynamics integrated tail light isn't out yet, when it is, I will probably make the move), and being I found a great deal on a double-bubble windscreen, it got changed within 24 hours of bringing her home. I shortened the length bolt so I could still use the tool pouch if I really wanted. The bolt for the NRC was a little long, and I trimmed it down a good 5-7mm.

I rode for about a week, and couldn't stand the mirrors. Shaky at speed, and I had to chicken wing or move just to see behind me. Being that my fiance and I ride daily and she enjoys having someone to follow, I use my mirrors all the time. So off they came, some NRC mirror block offs, and my CRG Lane Split mirrors went on the bike.

I had the exhaust on order, as well as a TuneBoy, and finally got my Pitbull stand and pins, so it was time to strip her down, do the exhaust, PAIR removal and block off plates, as well as a Sprint air filter. Being that my bar end mirror mounts were well over 6 years old, I decided I wanted to upgrade them for some mirror mount weights to make it look a little better (off with Rhino Moto mounts on on with Motivation weighted mounts.

I didn't get a photo with the sub-frame off, but it for sure helped to remove it installing the exhaust. I also removed the charcoal filter, have on order a Y-connector to put it to one hose, but for now added hose and routed to the bottom of the bike. I used the Tune Boy and got their full Akra map loaded with Cruise Control, which is a really weird feeling while riding, but really nice on long straight stretches for sure.

And then all back together....

I will continue to update as I make more changes... as well as trying to get more photos as I go because who doesn't love a good build thread.

Lots more to do... BST wheels in the next few months, moving my Brake Tech CMC rotors, some more carbon, come titanium, changes to the suspension, etc. Hopefully in the next few weeks I should have the springs for the suspension and I can get them swapped out. Planning to send out the rotors for carrier replacement sometime in the next week or so.

Brake Tech CMC rotor carriers swapped... Ferodo XRAC pads, installed on the 1299 S. Total weight savings of 3.9 pounds for the rotors and titanium hardware holding them on...

Thanks for you thread, bike looks great.
What are your next plans?
What's the thing I marked on the picture?

That's the rubber or silicone gasket that's used to sandwich the stock exhaust heat shield to the subframe

weirdo, mine is black rubber. Another thing Ducati seems to have changed for the 1299. Thanks!

I see you already got the answer for the marked photo.

Also really digging the Motul 300V oil in the bike. Still clean looking.

Next plans are sending out the Brake Tech CMC rotors for new carriers, Ferodo XRAC pads to match, change out the brake fluid and reservoirs (Rizoma/Motul RBF600). I have some titanium bolts to install, but I need to go through them and figure out what else I need. I will be moving the springs over from the R1 to the forks on here (since the R1 has the Ohlins R&T forks), and I need a rear spring for the S. This winter I will get the suspension shimmed and valved to match the springs. BST wheels will be on the bike after I sell a few parts off the R1. I have a wedding coming up later this year, so funds are split, but I will have this to where I want it by the end of the riding season I am sure.

But the absolute next thing will be a dyno tune in the next two-three weeks, along with my fiances' CBR 1000RR.

I am still reading about other options as well. Once the suspension and brakes are done I will see how I feel about each of the other items, and slowly keeping making her mine.

Updated Post #2 above...

http://ducati1299.com/ducati-1299/25456-tweaking-begins-my-build-thread.html#post250620

Brake Tech CMC rotors installed and Ferodo XRAC pads.

With the weight loss, handling is for sure felt on turn in. Lighter feel. Braking is again down to 1 finger and much better modulation.

Also got installed:
-Ducabike Clutch window and red spring retainer (just installed last night, just not pics yet, too busy riding it)
-Scorpio Ride alarm (with the add-on package)
-Moto Corse quick release gas cap

Next on the list:

-Brembo 17 RCS brake master
-Brembo 17 RCS clutch master
-Oberon clutch slave
-Castrol SRF brake fluid

I should have the 17RCS masters in the next day or two, then swapping them out, hopefully improve braking a bit more, as well as improving the clutch feel and making it more consistent.

I will get a build list together in the first couple of posts soon, and try to get the rest of the photos.

WOW! Beautiful build!

Love the Brake Tech rotors! Do they work well for the street? They look to be designed for track ..?

They work well all the time. They have amazing initial bite. My only complaint with them, if they get dirty, or people touch them, they can get grabby and cause some chatter under braking. I clean the surface on them whenever I clean my chain.

I have gone through 3 sets of brake pads on the R1, 30'ish track days, 20k miles, and these have zero wear on them. You can see the surface difference, but there is no wear. Plus the loss of nearly 4 pounds, it's quite amazing.

For the street, these are better cold than a little heat and some racing pads/racing rotors. When you get a touch of heat in these, they are amazing. I could lift the rear wheel of my bike easily, but, I had enough feel with them (and Brembo HP calipers and Brembo 19RCS master) that I could tell exactly how much braking I was doing, and exactly what they were doing, all with one finger. It's hard to explain, but I have ran Brembo rotors, Galfer Wave Rotors, Galfer Superbike rotors, EBC rotors, etc, on different bikes, and there is just no comparison. Again, my only complaint is the "grabby" feel you get occasionally if they are dirty, get something on them, or people have been touching them (especially with greasy hands).

And yes, wet weather, doesn't really matter. They handle just as well in the wet.

man, all this raving about the braketech rotors but too bad we can't even get them!!

I can imagine how good those cmc are. At $2200 a set I'm feeling light headed. But hey brakes are important.

I have had mine for a while, and when I talked to Jeff at Brake Tech, he said "I'm close to getting these out again". But I have heard that a few years ago when looking for a rear rotor in the CMC setup.

I was offered $4000 for mine at one of the track days I attended... I didn't take it, but it was tempting.

Don't be surprised if they are even $3600 for them when they get released again... Mine were $1200/each when I got them years ago, and now I just spent another $400 putting new carriers on them.

Worth it. ;)

Hi mrailing, great to read your build. I am also an R1-forum member (R1@150) and came on here to help a friend locate some info regarding his 2015 1199R. He is looking to do a full akra TI system, but cannot find any before and after dyno results with tune (to see if its even worth it, besides losing the weight from cat & heat). We don't even know what tune to run on these things, or if it needs a custom tune, or a tune from the dealer.

We do about 35 tracks day a year (we are both NYST season pass members), so our biggest cost at this point is tires. We swapped bikes on Saturday, I have a 2015 R1M with around 20k into it, and he has a stock 2015 1199R. I was very impressed with how light the bike is and how well it fit me. I must say, it got me thinking about buying one, but maybe next year.

In the mean time, I am trying to gather info on performance mods and also race plastics; who sells either race plastics or CF race plastics for this thing???

Thanks, Ruben

When I went from stock to full ti akra with a dyno TB custom tune I went up about 9 hp. but the real gain was in torque around 5k up from about 85nm to 95 nm. Well worth the effort IMHO. Oh nearly forgot also put in a MWR SBK filter.
