Well, First ride on the 1299s and here she is in all her glory. Bike has 600 miles on it.

All cleaned up to try and get a cleaner look.

In the meantime i've sent the dealer an email and am waiting for a reply.

Spray the tinactin anti fungal spray on it to see where the leak is coming from....trick from the Ducati guys...it goes on like white "powder" and when oil gets on it, it obviously gets darker/colored ;)

Side note: I fell victim to this too, 2700 miles on my '17 R and got a leak from the head gasket, getting it replaced tomorrow

You're lucky.
I've had:
2 Oil Leaks
2 water pump leaks
Faulty display screen
And the Damn thing stalls on me once in a while

Enjoy. It's all part of that "pride of ownership" thing they keep telling you about. On the bright side. I guarantee that when the bike runs out of oil, the leaking will stop. I think that is actually in Ducati maintenance manual. Also if the bike is not running, there is a lot less likelihood of it dying on you. This also remedies the water pump and dash issue.

Looks as though you have traces of oil leaking from above your sump in your post clean image. You might need to trace the source from further up. Historically a well known weak point is the cam cover gasket on top of the cylinder head. Check it is not weeping from there. Then again if it is your sump, its easy enough to do it yourself. Drain your oil, drop your silencers and remove the bolts holding the sump to the bottom of the engine. Clean the mating surfaces and apply a thin bead of Ducati 3-bond. Torque up the bolts, re-fit your silencers, fill up with oil and you're done. With the right tools, allow yourself a couple of hours for the job.

Bike is still under warranty so I'll let the dealer handle it. Just disappointing that this bike came from a dealer and they did the 600 mile service prior to me picking it up. How this was missed, I dont know.

Thats brutal to see and the god/bad is youre under warranty. Im fairly new here but from what ive seen warranty doesnt necessarily mean its a guranteed fix.

looks like the gasket is cracked to the right of the bolt. What was your rear tire like? hard to see from the angle but oil could definitely fling back there

Cleaned everything up real good. Let the bike idle to 200 degrees. Bike was over filled by the dealer so i'm going to drain some out today and see what that does for me.

I don't know how "lucky" I am... This was within 24 hours of owning the bike. lol. Fortunately for me, the world will not come to an end over this. We'll get it sorted and back on the road shortly... Just sucks having a new bike and great weather when you can't even ride it.

And if you do have to go to the dealer for something isn't it comforting to know that a shop that can't even get an oil fill correct will be doing the work. Like I said. Designed by PhD's maintained by GEDs. There will undoubtably be a breakdown in QC during that transition.

Don't plan on taking it back. I have a hard time believing that all of this just all of a sudden happened right when I picked it up despite them "JUST" doing the 600 miles service. It's been a shaky transaction from the start. Should have went with my gut... Then I could've bought that 1299R in the classifieds. ;-P

Oh well... It'll get worked out.

Just drained some of the oil... Got it at an acceptable level and ran it down the street. Lets idle to 205... Now lets wait and see what she looks like in an hour in terms of leaks. If this doesn't work ill make an appointment for the dealer tomorrow and drop it off.

I change the oil quite frequently. I have filled it to the mid point between the two lines and fired it and let it run. Shut it off and let it cool and re checked. Oil will be low (filter etc). Now you fill it up t just under the upper line, take it out for a few miles, park it and let it sit, in every case, the oil level is way above the upper line. So now I fill it until it registers in the glass. Fire it, ride it then top off to mid way. Perfect every time. There are a few posts about oil in the airbox due to overfilling. I have never had this happen. The difference between just right and too much is small. I use a plastic squeeze bottle to top it off.

I have also noticed where you check your oil makes a difference. The angle of the pavement your on will make your bike appear to be straight, but might be slightly off which will affect where the oil shows in the sight glass.

This was pretty far off. About half way between the top mark and top of the glass when on stands which makes the bike pretty level when on the garage floor which has a slight can't to it.

Regardless, Bike is still leaking... Not as badly but it is. I'll be giving the local dealer a call tomorrow to try and get it in this week for a checkup.

That's why i do my own work, dealers have MMI guys work on your stuff right out of school who have know idea what they are doing. I was even able to make deal with local dealer to give my warranty parts and i can do my own warranty work, they bill it and get paid for doing nothing. Win win for me. I have lots of experience as tech and took some duc classes to learn about bike.

Well, I hope they can get that sorted without too much trouble. Let us know what the dealer comes up with.
