Another Suspension Option

Thought it would be less, as that is what I read about them. Of course you're not getting the "branded" valves from the other vendor but in the end it is about performance and from what I understand RG3 know what they're doing as well.

Did you decide what you want to do? Looking forward to hearing about your choice and most importantly, your impressions of the results. Good luck!

I am leaning towards either Race Tech or RG3. I just can't justify spending $2k plus on suspension that isn't necessary. I haven't decided 100% yet though. I still have a few weeks before I need to make a decision.

to put your mind to rest :

2 buddies of mine and me carry the full WSBK spec Ohlins FGR gasforks, serviced by top race shops.. same for TTX shock.

1 other buddy rides his base with stock Marzocchi/Sachs setup ...

guess who's fastest? :)

having a shop you trust ( !) have a good look at what you have, and make springs and oil levels to your weight allowing for base setup that has 4 to 5 MM preload and a 40% from fully closed compression and rebound. This should do what you want and allow for adjustments afterwards that you will notice. PE : loosing PL lowers the front.

At the back : go for a spring that carries the weight well so you don't need to 'stiffen' the bike through compression... stiffening through compression will get you in trouble on bad roads (holes, heavy endulations ) if it still pumps, add a bit of rebound damping to steady it..

then use rear height to lively up ( higher ) or steady ( lower) the rear.. once you have this balanced base setup it will be good for 90% of all circumstances.

what will be harder to reconcile would be if your slow on the Streets and dead fast on the track... as speed has great impact on suspension

If you are getting replacement forks under warranty then your seals will not need to be replaced.

I will echo the earlier message that getting the right spring weight is huge. Nothing else will work optimally if they are wrong and not properly preloaded for you.

I'm not like a lot other riders out there. I only ride out of town through the canyons and up twisty mountain passes. I think that the stock forks and shock feel great. I know what ...... suspension feels like and the Panigale doesn't have ...... suspension. Like I said, I'm in the minority on this perspective.

I don't imagine you will be disappointed with any improvement you make to the suspension. Go for it.

I'll agree if we're talking about the 50mm Marzocchi, but the Sachs shock had to go. The springs in the Marzocchis are a bit heavy for the average rider, so check that out, but they're damned good for OEM bits.

All that said, I've raced on RaceTech and put in about 50k street miles on RaceTech. Paul makes quality bits at a reasonable price and I recommend his stuff to anyone who'll listen. Hard to go wrong there I'd you're unhappy with your current hangers.

I don't really care about the name on the caps, just want something set up for my weight that works better than OEM. I'm not sure on the dust caps and seals, Im deployed so I cant check right now. I asked him to throw the quote in with replacing everything so there would be no surprises. Im sure they are fine though, bike only have 1300 miles on it.[/QUOTE

Have you played with all your other settings? Rebound, Compress?

I had set everything to ride as well as I could given the springs are not up to my weight. The last canyon ride I did, I made a rebound change and noticed the rebound screw didn't seem to change anything. I have an appointment at my dealer in a couple weeks to get the forks checked/replaced as well as my coolant leak.

kope, thank you that is great information to have. I definitely need to visit a quality suspension shop when I have time. I am about 40 lbs over the weight range for the stock suspension so that is a lot of my current problem.

I have a set of base model forks with the Ohlins NIX30 already installed and built for sale. Buy my set up and sell your base model forks and it'll be a direct swap and you'll come out ahead of trying to go cheap with Race Tech. PM if interested.

what is the weight range for stock base model?

I haven't seen a published spring rate, but I don't have preload quite maxed out yet with the stock springs and I'm about 250 lbs. Oversprung for the average rider, I'll lay odds.

the standard shock is the 90k spring. the stock TTX36 aftermarket schock spring is 95... the standard bike is measured for 75-80kg ..

Kx450fsm - did you ever get your OEM suspension re-done? This came up recently from another user. Interested in your results.

Kope999r, what suspensionshop do you work with, you seem te be in the same vicinity as me and I've been looking for a good suspension shop in the area.

No, I just got my bike back from the shop from a clusterf@ck of issues with oil and coolant leaks. I plan on using RaceTech to revalve my stock stuff at some point. Just want to ride and start enjoying the bike again because the last month has made me really consider getting rid of this thing with all the issues I was having.

Sorry to hear, that is indeed frustrating. Ridiculous that you come back from the sandbox and just want to enjoy yourself and your toy doesn't want to cooperate. Good luck and good hunting, there are so many good choices right now. I almost bought a Aprilia Tuono V4R the other day, there are some smoking deals on leftover 2013s right now, and that bike has been around so long the issues have been mostly ironed out. Same thing with Gen 4 ZX-10Rs as well.

I dropped my bike off the day after I got home. After 3 weeks I started looking around and almost bought a Mv Dragster 800 but the wife made me wait. I may end up buying a second bike and keeping the 1199 but I haven't decided yet.

It will take some doing to get the wife to be ok with it since I have a drag bike in pieces in the garage, a supermoto in pieces in the garage, and a CB750 project in pieces in the garage too haha.
