Last April I picked up a leftover 2015 1299 Panigale after trading in my 2014 Monster 1200s and at times when I would start the Panigale, it would shut off as I released the clutch ( no I didn't stall ) This happened once in a while during a cold start. It never bothered me. However in the beginning of April after I left work and Im about to get gas after riding a mile white smoke starts coming out of my exhaust while at the light. I go to get gas. Then restart her and ride off no white smoke. As Im riding before I get on the highway the bike begins to lose power while Im the throttle and begins to sort of sputter. Then within a few seconds regains power. I get on the highway and again I start to lose power while on the throttle and its engine is sputtering. Regain power. Ride a mile same thing happens and the bike shuts off completely. I tried starting the bike up and it doesnt turn over. I get towed home. The dealer who I got the bike from picks it up the next day and a week later she is back at my house. I get on the bike 2 days later. Ride 15 miles and the same thing happens. Power loss while on the throttle, engine sputters, regain engine power, ride a couple hundred feet. Engine sputters while on the throttle and the bike shuts off. I call the dealer they send a pickup to get me. I waited 5 mins and restart the bike after giving it some throttle. Bike starts. I depress the clutch, as I let go engine shuts off. I try restarting the bike and it doesnt turn over. Then 5 mins later it starts and shuts off.

So now the bike has been at the dealer going on 3 1/2 weeks. They dont know what the issue is and contacted Ducati. So far Ducati hasnt responded back. Has anyone experienced this on their bikes or maybe know what the issue may be. Im running Termignoni slip ons and have a power commander on the bike. But the engine shut off I had in the beginning of this post happened before I installed the slips ons or the power commander. And Ive put on 3500 miles on the bike since installing the slips ons and power commander.

Mine was doing something similar. 1199 though. Mine also threw a check engine light couple of times and then disappeared on its own. Had the dealer pull the codes and it turns out 1 of the 2 map sensors was shot. They replaced it under warranty and problem solved.

For some reason they cant find the issue and want ducati to give them answers. Ill call on Tuesday and mention what you said. Hopefully that is the issue but Im surprised after all these weeks they didnt think of checking that.

Disconnect the power commander. That's where I would start.

You think the power commander may be the issue even after logging on over 3,000 miles with it on? Im sure your correct about checking to see if the problem happens again by disconnecting the power commander. The only issue is they test rode the bike numerous times and it didnt happen even with the power commander attached. I told them ride the bike for 15 miles. After they reflashed it the problem happened after about 15 miles. At this point I just want to ride the bike and love it so much more than my S1000RR. I even enjoy riding my S1000R more than the S1000RR LOL

That's the thing with electrical problems, they don't show up when you need them to, then show up when you don't need them to.

Th PC introduces a break point and you need to eliminate that issue. Also, I do no work for Tuneboy, but would choose that over a PC any day.

Does tuneboy reflash my computer and then I reinstall it? Wouldnt that come up on the dealers computer if I brought the bike back for something and then void the warranty? Or would it make sense to buy another computer as a back up and if anything happens swap them out so the dealer doesnt diagnose the reflashed computer.

What does tune boy offer that is different from rapid bike and power commander

Tuneboy writes code directly to ECU, no external hardware to add. You can flash it back to stock whenever you want, although if you have an aftermarket exhaust you may not want to flash it back. I used to have Tuneboy on my Triumph and loved it.

Welcome to the ever growing owners club of 1299's with that famous "Ducati Character"
Mine has had similar problems since I bought it new in 2015..** Don't expect any fix from Ducati or the dealer.. They have no clue what is causing it (or at least they wont admit anything.... Sounds like you got one with the same electrical gremlins as mine with even more problems than mine.. Bummer...
I feel sorry for you man..
All you can do is pray it doesn't die on you in the middle of traffic (or going through a light with oncoming traffic) like mine has. That always seems to get my heart really pumping....!!!
It is always exciting to ride mine because I never know when it will decide to put me in a dangerous situation. * Mine does run well some times and it is a joy but it is really aggravating when it is acting up.. That is why it is so frustrating.. It has the capacity to run well but it just won't let me enjoy it for very long before it decides to start acting up again....
It is definitely an electrical gremlin...
Good luck to you.. Keep us posted and let us know if you figure out what is causing it or a fix.. Many of us would love to know how to fix it...

Well I finally got the bike back. It took Ducati 2 weeks to get back to my dealer. They said its my power commander. And it needed to be removed. At first the dealer was going to charge for the diagnostics and time for labor. Im like what are you charging me for. When I brought my bike in for its first service i told you the bike was shutting off after I started it and am about to take off. That was before the power commander and the termis. And I said nothing was done to fix that problem. It would shut off once in a while when started if sitting for a few hours or over night but never shut off during rides. I put all those miles on it and all of a sudden after a 2 rides the bikes shuts off on me in traffic on the highway with a freakin wall next to me because of construction on the highway and no shoulder to pull over on with cars wizzing by and cop passing me till a tow truck got me off and said he cant leave me on the highway. I get my bike back after 2 weeks. The next day same thing happens but i was able to get on the shoulder and the dealer got my bike. After over a month there they said ducati said its the power commander. After 15 mins of talking to them the dealer didnt charge me anything and said its under warranty. Tomorrow is the first nice day since I got her back monday and Im wary about riding her to work on the highway. Debating whether to chance it and hope nothing happens or take the S1000RR or S1000R. If she does stall out again Im going to look into what my options are here in NY and see if the lemon law works the same with motorcycles as it does with cars. I have her less than 18 months. Bought her Feb 2016

It does sound like map sensor. Mine got one of the map sensor died, and it didn't show any warning code when it did. But it killed one of the cylinder by getting the plugs to foul.

They didnt find anything through diagnostics but ducati recommended unplugging the Power Commander. Do you the think the power commander did that to my map sensor and killed one of the cylinders?

With mine it was likely age.
They didn't find anything in the diagnosis.

This is for any vehicle that's still under warranty: Anytime there's an aftermarket product that could possibly be part of the problem, it needs to be removed before taking it in because it provides an out for the dealer (if he didn't install it) or the mfr whether it was at fault or not. It's too easy for them to blame so it's best to remove aftermarket stuff so that the dealer/mfr are not distracted from doing a proper diagnostic.

It's NOT the Power Commander.

You can add a PCM V, a Rapid Bike or even a Tuneboy or Bazzaz unit. NONE of them will stop it from dying on you ..It is a DUCATI problem. Something in the wiring or ECU etc...an inherent design flaw
Any money you spend on it trying to fix it will not fix it..

I had the problem before I installed a Rapid Bike Racing unit plus an Akropovic exhaust, the so called "Up Map" that came with the exhaust...
I have spent a fortune on mine just trying to get it to run smooth in town and not buck and kick etc.. I gave up on trying to make it not stall from time to time.. Nothing made a difference Dealer has tried may times They cannot do anything about it... Mine had the ECU, the throttle bodies and even the actual throttle unit changed out It did not fix it..

*My bike does run much stronger power wise and it is a absolute beast in the Race mode when you open the throttle..(great at the track) but it still dies on me in parking lots and the middle of the freeway etc. and runs very erratic below 6000 rpm in town...

I have been in several hair raising situations also..

You just have to learn to expect it at any time (and make sure to pull in the clutch if it starts to die) and give it more throttle..etc..
I never know when it will do it.. Some days no problem then others it will act up.. It can happen in parking lots just sitting there just idling or just going down the street or highway at steady pace etc.

We both have bikes with the similar problems.. It will not get better.. Sorry but that is the truth..

I am tired of even trying to get it corrected. It took me two and a half years but I have finally given up.

I wish I had filed for the lemon law when I still had some time..

The 1299 issue with dying is the IMU and quick shifter unit being faulty according to ducati
