Base or S?

Can't go wrong with either bikes! Both bike will leave you with a sh*t eating grin in your face all day! (no disrespect) =)

I got myself the S model only because I know down the road I will want the
Ohlins suspension, even though I know that I will never put them to good use,
I just enjoy staring at them on the bike...

I was against the S for several reasons - I didn't like the front fender color, the electronic suspension - something else to go wrong, also when Ohlins comes out with something better, you're screwed, and the price. The 2 things I liked, red striped wheels - I added, and the LED lights - I upgraded the bulbs, may do HID some day. Lastly, the base will depreciate slower precentage wise.

+1 except the lights

5 grand to be spent elsewhere. loved the looks of the chicken feet, but not so much any more. might go for carrozzerias...

BASE

Just finished a track day yesterday (the Pani was a blast around the track as you might expect). Mine's a base, but another rider on an S had massive problems with his suspension because he changed out to race tires and for some reason the bike couldn't process that info. it was made totally unrideable until they jury rigged the sensors somehow. Seems a bit too smart for the track?

I think the Base suspension is better than that on the S IMO .
I did a few races with standard set up was surprised how well they performed the same can't be said for the guys I know with the S bikes ......all i know have swapped out the electronic suspension.

Some interesting comments. One thing I want to put straight is it is absurd to say that the small wires coming out of the S rear shock " gets in the way", seriously it is just not possible. They are tiny compared to the cylinder they are protruding from.

The other one was on the race settings and how the electronic suspension reacts with different tyres... Again seriously? The traction control can get a bit lost with different tyres, but I fail to see how the suspension could?

I admit I only use Pirellis and my S at the track with electronic suspension is simply perfect, so I don't understand that.

Anyway, that is just my rant. In Australia where I live and ride we have some very variable roads, especially when you head out in the country mountain roads. Everything from smooth, to just OK, to very bumpy, to crappy, having the ability to change suspension settings while riding through these variables is a god send. So I would say if that is what you need than yes the S with its electronics is worth every cent. It is why I brought mine.

There seems to be some general misunderstanding appearing recently. It is Ohlins suspension with stepper motors to allow for electronic adjustment, not electronic suspension.

I think (hope!) everyone knows that, just calls it that as Ducati does. But am I right, DES will only be compatible with Ohlins created specifically for it? I mean at this point are there any changes you can do to it and the DES still work?

P.S. you looked better with the hat IMHO :D

I just read about Quick Shift. Can anyone give a short explanation how this works and does it come standard on all models including the base?

Thank you

I did my homework and researched both model. I know about the differences but I would like to know for an owner of each model if it is really worth going for the S model. Besides the wheels are there any other cosmetics differences?

Thank you

Get either model...whether it be the "S" or "Base"...depends on your budget. They are both excellent bikes. I got he "S"...but I have a buddy who is a trackday fanatic and rides like his Bayliss on his base model Panigale... Several of us on the "S" cant even keep up with him. He's changed his gearing and put race tires...he doesnt even have an aftermarket exhaust. He dissapears after a few laps...

Electronic ohlins sus, forged wheels, LED headlights and front carbon fender are the 4 main differences...no cosmetic changes...same baloney.

Does anyone has a picture of the aero kit not installed. Am I correct that this kit comes with every S model but not with the base model?

Also, I wonder if anyone in the US could share the price they paid before tax and any dealer fees. I think I got a good offer but comparing would help.

Thank you

Does it come with every model?

I've read mixed reports of them coming with the base model (I think), but I originally thought they only came with the S and Tri. Who knows at this point. I have them in a box, but haven't thought about installing them since I like the slimmed down front end look. There are some pics of them installed in the pani pics thread. I'll see if I can find them and link back.

Mine has aero kit, I think it looks better but can't say it made much difference aerodynamically
