Best heat shield

Hi there

Please don't shoot me but I want to ask a question that has been answered (at least in many different forms) in many threads. I have been offered the heat shield upgrade by my dealer but I think it is ugly. I want to replace the stock heat shield with a carbon one with a weave/finish matching the DP parts and that actually reduces the heat. I am thinking of the Ilmberger heat shield but would love to get recommendations. The main things for me a physical look, heat reduction and longevity.

Sorry once again for opening Pandora's box.

heat? what heat?

as far as i can tell, the "best" in terms of heat protection is the new design by ducati.

period.

Maybe start another thread titled "Best heat shield for the R" so we can kill two birds with one stone?

Great. Have you seen it in real life. I think i like it apart from the stupid metal plaque. Do you know if it actually reduces heat?

There is no heat problem, and no one has reviewed the new heat soulution from Ducati, plus some are only using half of the config. This is going to go on and on forever. How can you compare Ducati's fix against a zillion other products/attempts, coatings, seat changes combnations, then with or without the fix.

All of this, when in complete honesty, THERE IS NO HEAT PROBLEM.

Thanks for the opinion but my issue (i admit that i am a Tricolore rider) is that the Ducati solution is just plain ugly! If we all wore a heat proof suit it would also solve the problem! That is why i am looking for advice on the Ilmberger and other solutions

It's the only composite carbon ceramic offering.

Trauma, give it up some people don't like it. I know you know, you they don't have to agree with you. I tolerate it, BUT YES IT IS UNCOMFORTABLE and I put a lot of miles on.

Not acknowledging any problems here, but did your carbon one change anything at all, other than looking sweet?

Here is what I use, it works. For only $132 give it a try, and see if it works for you. Excellent quality, has a foil lining. RC has the best price of all CF, and as good or better quality than anyone else:

TransNone is correct; the Ilmberger offering is probably the "coolest" of the bunch, and its drawbacks are obvious, well at least to me they are (price and the unsightly plate). I originally purchased a CDT heat guard from the folks at Motowheels, it was a beautiful piece, but unfortunately the mounting screws fell out causing the guard to burn in spots. It was lined with heat tape, but I didn't care for the glossiness of it compared to the matte finish of the other carbon pieces on my bike. Subsequent to that I followed Trauma's advice and purchased the heat guard he provided a link to (RC Matte Carbon, ebay). The only negative with that piece was the amount of time it took to receive (two weeks?), beyond that, I love it. A much lower price, it comes lined with heat tape, no unsightly plate, and the matte carbon finish looks fantastic (I cannot speak to the carbon itself). I like the RC heat guard so much that i could see ordering other pieces from them. For the record, the mounting screws came out of both heat guards, and after short rides, blue loctite used in both cases and have since moved to using red. It gets awfully hot in that area, something to consider. ;)

I used clear loctite, and have one screw left - not worried about it coming off unless my subframe detaches from the bike! Going to ACE when the snow melts to get new ones.
