If you can afford all the rebuilds you can afford a quicker bike

Yes cause the V4SP is so much faster than a half price base model

still waiting for someone to show and tell their v special SLV4 which I’m sure is even faster yet

Yep, it allowed much cooler or more controlled piston temperatures thus over square bores, larger areas, higher revs, etc etc. One thing leads to another

In the early years I don’t think they realized it was possible to run more than 180° of duration. With minimal camshaft 4 stroke engines had to have a lot of stroke to make any power. Engines were as outta square as they are now but in the opposite direction

Later more cam, better flowing ports, higher rpm - skirts had to get shorter - there is only so much room

Based on what you wrote, I would get the Ducati. It’s what you really want. If you go BMW and for any reason you are not happy, you will be mad at yourself for not getting what you really wanted. This is an emotional purchase, rely on that 1st.

Get S1000RR mate. It's an excellent bike with loads of potential and speed. Especially if you raced before, you can easily take it to the track and it will live up to your expectations.

You can always buy an ancient ducati when you're 60
