Bike won't start

yep on modern ducs if you ride em once a week or so for any kind of distance you can get by without a tender, tho I won't do it.

I have done it for years, but I would fall back on the handy auto charger if I went out there and one wouldn't start.

I accidentally left the key turned in the on position on my SF overnight once. Came out the next morning and it fired right..ok, kidding, I had to pull the battery and put it on a charger, but I am still running the same battery 23k miles or so later. I don't own one either, but I don't go more than a week or two at the most without riding.

I fire my bikes up once a week or two. I did let my R1 go a month and it fired right up. I think the 1199 manual said You should start it at least once a month. The shorai battery I have in there I'm not sure about but rumors about the shorai is it suppose last longer with less drain than the OEM battery.

that's more of a hard starting issue than a bum battery. Some thoughts (mavic can chime in) the hard starting is perhaps caused by fuel pump not quite right, don't remember the details. The other thought is the evap canister causing a buildup in pressure in the tank after riding making it tough to crank.

It's a hit or miss thing as I've never had any issues with starting myself.

Welcome to the PArty Dude. I drove mine last weekend for a couple hours, got home parket it for about 30 min, came back out to try and start it and NOTHING! Just hissed, checgged and wouldnt start until about the 5-6th minute of trying, i turned key on, left it (because i had to walk away i was so pissed) came back and said these magic words "BITCH YOU BETTER ....... START" and sure enough she started. This is the second time this .... has happened to me, ill post the video online tonight so you can see if the same .... happened to you. Plus id like to have trauma and other guys listen to give their thoughts.

As I mentioned in #20, What you hear is me also doing the ignition reset by turning key off, kill switch, and turning it all back on before starting again. I walked ot the other side of the bike in order not to kick the son of a bitch because i was really getting mad but wanted to keep the video just of the bike not of me acting out

Different issue.

Check the hard starting thread.

From what I can gather, Pani is a 12v battery. Thus, regular tenders should be just fine.

I had a shorai battery in my R1 and I left it for a couple months over winter without starting it and it fired right up when I went to start it the first time. One thing I noticed about the shorai that wasnt as prevalent in a standard battery is that it seems more prone to being affected by cold weather and the bike turns over a little slower but it still fires right up after a few more revolutions.

Dan came by my house. He plugged it back up to the trickle charger and the bike started right up. Rode it up to the dealer for them to check it out and come to find out (they said) my trickle charger only charges up to 12v and the pani is a 14v battery. They ended up giving me a DP charger that chargers the pani up to 14v at cost.

What kind/brand or battery charger were you using when this happened?

I've left both of my bikes sitting for months at a time, they have always fired up... Never used a tender!

Ok, woke me up. I'm gonna post a video of paint pealing off the back of my house - wtf I love videos of nothing happening.

Sorry next time while I’m video recording my bike not starting (so i can try to see if others might be able to help me figure out what’s wrong) I’ll be sure to throw in some video of bike Bling and maybe some girls in bikinis as well to help make it a little more exciting! :D

(Also, I didn’t know painted peeled off Trailer homes, i thought the color was baked in...)
