3 months ago I purchased a 2014 899 from a friend.
I just took it to the track and tried to set up the suspensión to my weight
The rear shock has been leaking for a while and only one click will move the shock from way soft to very hard. Suspension tech told me is pretty much useless
I don’t have the budget for a new TTX or Mupo shock which would be my choice
What options do I have ?
Get another 899/959 stock shock?
Thanks

I know a Ducati mechanic who says ktech is the best
But still not sure I should spend that much at my pace Not sure I will feel the difference but maybe I’m underestimating a good suspension
I run an ok pace on intermediate group

Maybe revalve the stock shock? I've done that before with good results and its way cheaper than a mupo etc.

Good suspension is in my book, one of the most importen things on a motorcycle, especially when the bike is used for track-days
You will feel the difference, if you get a well setup suspension.
I think at your speed a well setup standard suspension is OK.
Can your rear shock absorber not be serviced/repaired ?

Im thinking either revalve the stock one or buying one from a newer 959 those can be found for $100 or less
Next option is buying one from a 1299s electronic and having a shop add manual adjusters but thy would be about 5/600 dollars but that’s would be a good step up from what I have a believe

It is better to revalve the one you have, then you know you have a good shock
If you buy a other it could be as bad thats you one you have.

This is what i have on my 1199 together with a NIX-30 in the front fork, and for me thats pretty good setup.
I service my shock and forks every year = check everything + cleaning + new oil + new gas.
My speed is in the low end of the fast group.

in that condition? or generally?
I've serviced different 20 years old showas, these were shity. but even these did there job.
bring it to stock/new condition at first. means new seal, oil, pressure.
then you will have a adjustable shock.
before that, fiddeling with the valves makes no sense.

(btw. I've seen one of these shity old showas for sale.
"done" from a well known shop with good reputation. for 600€!!!
this is really burned money.
so, if you come to them, with a "make me fast/öhlins/whatever attitude...what should they do other than take your Money")

In the condition is in now.
I know if I Have someone rebuilt it would be still a great shock for me
But is it cost effective doing that instead of buying one low miles one off a 959?
Those can be going for about $100

Doing so reading about those electronic ttx on the 1299s
I can find one for about $250 or less
I think is about $300 to transform to manual adjusters

For my 899 I bought a used 1199 shock which is a slight upgrade of the 899 from a guy that had removed it from new, fitted a spring for my weight and it's been fantastic. Mines a track only bike and I've been running it with good results for years.
I got his flat link as well because he wanted better stuff, me I just want stuff that works to my level.

Something like this you are running I believe ?
That would be a good step up from stock I believe and for under $300. Obviously hoping the shock is in good condition and not leaking at all

The 2 other options
Obviously the list options is more expensive and still another 2/300 to add manual adjusters

The Ohlins that comes on the S models arent much better than what you have now imo. They look nice but still have street valving, the aftermarket Ohlins GP shocks are the real deal.

Mmm and I have read some posts that swear those shocks with the manual adjusters are just as good as the ttx gp shocks

You should be able to buy a shock for $100 and the oem flat link and adjustable rod for 40 or 50. Someone on the forum would have this stuff for you I would think.
