I had the chance to get a crashed 1199S for a very good price :) :) :)
Attached the "before" pictures to this post. Hope to present the "after" pictures in the near future.
Funny: I'm as excited as when I bought my first Pani.

Damn, how many 1199's you gonna end up with? Lol

I say it must be boredom. Once your projects are done, you gotta have another. I suffer from this problem myself.

What are the plans with this one? Track bike only? Always fun to get a new build

All my bikes became so completely illegal that I need a commuter Panigale where I don't panic everytime I see some police. So, my Tri get even lighter and becomes a track bike. This one gets implanted all parts lying around to become a swiss street legal bike.

Nice grab. Did you get a salvaged title with it too?
Do you guys have the same type of thing over there like we do on that sort of stuff? Did you buy it off the guy who was unfortunate enough to total it or somewhere else?

Imust say that iI've not seen too many wrecked Panis here but haven't looked either. I'm sure certain bike shops get them in and maybe have to return them to the insurance companies after the reps Come in and write them off as a total loss? I guess if one could get aa hold of one that ddoesn'thave bent forks or something that makes them totally unrideable it may be worth it to pick up for a track build?

Do keep in mind that dropping a Panigale in a parking lot can do enough damage to total it so if you keep an eye out finding a good sample isn't too difficult.

A friend of mine lowsided his base about six weeks ago. Bike was mechanically sound and the damage, according to the dealership, was only cosmetic... but it was 17k worth of cosmetic damage so it ended up totaled. IMO all it needed was some track bodywork and it would have been ready to go as a track bike so there are definitely steals to be had.

WOW!
That is UNREAL BTrain. Totaling a bike due to cosmetic issues is a shame.
Hence reason I always tell folks to hang onto their stock bodywork, not paint it or do anything to change it up, and go with a set of Sharkskinz for BOTH the track use and even for the street since its not gonna get a bike totaled like this! Unbelievable story!

@BTrain5489 & Gunny
So, that's the story: During spring and summer lots of crashed bikes are being returned to the dealers. Often they are not damaged from high speed crashes but dummy drunken squid garage parking actions. When I decided not to buy a 1299 some weeks ago I told my dealer to keep looking for a "crashed" 1199 that I could rebuild with the OEM parts I still keep (Gunny you're absolutely right). The bike should have no structural damage at all, no real collision with anything etc.

This was the second bike he kept for me. Damages are cosmetic, only one plug to the front fork is halfways ripped-off. If the dealer would have to repair it, it would mean changing the whole wiring harness, for me it's just splicing up some cables. So the dealer wrote an offer to the insurance company with a detailed and very precise list of all parts that would have to be replaced to get the bike back to a almost mint condition. Result: bike is declared "totalled" and the previous owner gets paid for the bikes value before the crash. The dealer then can negotiate with the issurance company a price to buy this bike. Thats what I then have to pay to the dealer. Thats all. I can simply go to the transportation department and get it registered to me, fix it, and drive away :)

After my very first time on the track in Almeria in January, followed by two days in Dijon in May, I am absolutely hooked and I want to have a track-only Pani now.
So, everything matches up perfectly, I upgrade my CF Tri with minor things to make it track-only, and get a street Pani for far less then the price of a Scrambler :)

+1
I dropped my 2007 S4RS and it was totaled because:
Bend steering stops = frame totaled
Scratch mark on forks = forks totaled
Tank, Termignoni exhaust, clutch cover, mirrors, windshield, seat cowl etc. scratched = you guessed it
Bought it back from the insurance company at a steal

Okay mordor, I'm keeping you posted :)
Yesterday was phantastic weather, so I took off together with my GF and a colleague to the "Schwarzwald". 1 SL, 1 red 1199S and a M1200S, it was great. When we came back home we were so tired that I didn't touch the new Pani. Just went to bed.

Today I started to take the new babe apart, replaced some broken parts and generally checked it's condition.

1) The previous owner seemed to be a bit of a pig. The bike is dirty everywhere. Luckly I like cleaning and I couldn't find any corrosion except for one screw which is not OEM.

2) Never had one of those "new" heat shields in my hand. When a removed the one installed on that bike I had to realise it's ..... See attached pictures. I will install the Ilmberger ceramic shield I have lying around.

3) The exhaust shields are completely loose. And the 4 screws holding them are rusty. I replace them with new screws and Ilmberger shields, also left from my Tri before I switched her to full Ti Akra.

4) Obviously some tech forgot to reinstall the engine breather hose clamp after some servicing. Always good to check a newly purchased good :)

What's really cool is that the engine is completely dry, no leakage anywhere.
