Ouch! Deer stories *hit* close to home for me; I caught one in the face once at about 30mph while cycling some years back. Was out hammering in the sticks with some mates and scared up a bunch in the woods alongside us. I was off the front a bit and heard someone behind yell out, and looked to my right just in time to see several deer in mid flight. They were jumping a wire fence trying to cross the road before we got there. Didn't make it; Bambi and I made eye contact right before her front hooves hit the pavement, which unfortunately was about the same time my front wheel hit her front shoulder. Boom; arseholes over elbows, fur flying fun. Bambi and I both got up, her a lot quicker than me. Still carrying scars from that one, but the most lasting pain was having to hear everyone singing that song about "grandma got run over by a reindeer" for years after! Heck; for months every time someone saw so much as a squirrel by the road they'd yell at me, "lookout, it's coming for you!" ;)

Every time I feel the urge to air it out a bit on some woodsy stretch of road these days, I think of what's in those woods and think better of it. That's served me well so far, since I've seen a number of critters just off the road that I'm glad not to have met up close and personal. Be careful out there indeed!

Congrats on the break in! Hope your mate recovers well.

As regards deer, we also have a problem with them in the UK. I was on a local police Bike Safe training course and they said that where there is one deer, there will usually be more, given their gregarious nature - so watch out - if one crosses the road, there may be more...

here in holland they tell me from ducati that you have to run the bike in under 6k for 1000km, and after that you can go full throttle. my dash also gives the full 10.500 range as possible. (no more orange)

why would you run the bike in for 2500 KM  that is way too much.

Hey, I'm just following the owner's manual, which instructs you to keep it under 6K for the first 1000 KM (at which point you change the oil) and then under 7K up to 2500 KM.

How much this type of run-in affects the performance and longevity of the engine can be argued forever; however, what I am absolutely sure of is that Ducati can decline a warrenty claim if the data shows that the bike was not run-in as instructed.

i understand, but why does the dash indicat that you can rev the entire rev range? and not like during the actual 1000km run in give you until 6k.

why doesn't it change to 7k then?

i will open her up fully after 1000km. they can not decline your warranty claim.. if they wanted to be able to do so then they had to show on the DASH just like the 6k that you have to stay beneath the 7k.

instead the dash says..dude rev the bike. haha.

so if i was you just open the throttle.

Thanks for the write up! I've run mine in hard and I still rarely find an area where I can experiment above 8k.

With the race mode, I found it too twitchy, so I simply switched Sport mode to 195HI. All the power, nicer throttle. Still plenty easy to roll it wide open when needed. :)

If you switched the power in Sport Mode to 195HI, the throttle should be the same as it is in Race Mode. Am I missing something?
