Am I taking crazy pills? If I was putting a roof over my kid's head and he/she came home with a brand new Ducati I would kick their ... out!
Do you have a garage? where will you park it?
I was the one that you referred to as being excited about the price of the exhaust, but I think you took it out of context. I was excited that although it's $5300usd in the states, it's "only" $5690 here in Canada. With the conversion rate as it sits today its cheaper where I am, which made me excited.
I was in your shoes some 15 years ago. I was struggling to buy a used r6 while paying for rent and bills on a $35k salary. I was so set on a ducati 999, and had saved enough cash for one, but I backed out last minute. Just couldn't spend all my life savings on a rapidly depreciating asset. So I bought a used r6 for $4k instead. Now I can buy any bike I want. If I bought the 999 then, I'd be stuck riding a used r6 now (not that they're bad bikes, arguing in the sake of monetary value). You can either live like a prince early, or live like a king later. And trust me, there are always going to be newer and better bikes that tickle your fancy.
Your money, your decision. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.
Hey I'm happy for you! Glad you noticed the reference haha. You're not wrong about spending an entire life savings for a motorcycle being a bad idea. I whole heartedly agree with you. But I'll be able to make that money back in no time. Again not trying to argue, just making conversation. I appreciate your words.
Like many have stated only you can make that decision. If i am reading your initial post my thought is you are asking about going into a pit based on the cost of maintaining a Ducati. That all depends on how you ride and how much you ride.
Over the years i have owned several and never found them anymore expensive to maintain then other brands. If you are taken by the V4 and feel that it is good bike for you get one. So you live at home my guess is by the way you post & respond you have a good head on your shoulders. Good Luke with your choice.
Imagine the tang you could take back to your parents house with a brand new Ducati
Why any young kid (assuming you're a young kid) would even want to do this is beyond me. Insurance alone will rip you a new one. Get another japanese 600 and call it a day. When you're done with school, are older than 25 and make more money, go buy all the Ducati bikes you want.
Even if you could afford it right now, having an insurance payment be as much as or more than the bike payment is not worth it. This will more than likely be the case. And if you say your insurance is gonna be cheap because you're gonna have lower liability limits and a high deductible, then you're definitely not ready to get into a Ducati.
In the end, it's your money and your decision. Is it worth it? Not a chance in hell. You could wait another year or two, let the buzz die down some as you get older n have more money and make that purchase a little easier to justify. No need to rush into that kinda purchase....unless of course you're into .... measuring contests.
for my HS graduation gift my parents bought me luggage and said GTFO.
I admit I'm a little jealous of Peaches situation. mostly because nothing excites me enough to entice me and I can afford almost anything I could possibly ever want.
you cannot buy your youth back so .... it go for it .
