Budget Ducati V4

You already know this but the only person who knows if you can afford a new Ducati or not is you. Personally, I would never stretch myself financially for a motorcycle or anything like that but that's me. That said, I might have tried something like that at 21 or 22 or whatever if I had 2 nickels to rub together at that age. But I didn't so I never did.

At the end of the day, only you can decide what's best for you and if you can swing it and you want to do it, then go ahead and do it. You're not hurting anyone else or causing the world to stop turning so I don't see what the big deal is. If you need to sell it and take a loss then so be it. You know what you're getting into. You'll figure it out.

As you've seen, some say get it and some say don't.

When I was a younger guy, I would've bought it and not care about the financial responsibility but as a Older guy now, I will say wait.

I look back and I think to myself....man I should've saved and invested more instead of spending and I did spend A LOT. Do I have anything to show for it? yeah experiences and I guess that experiences matured me to be who I am today. lol.

What I am trying to say is that, each person need to learn it from themselves.

So go for it if you really want it.

I was the one that you referred to as being excited about the price of the exhaust, but I think you took it out of context. I was excited that although it's $5300usd in the states, it's "only" $5690 here in Canada. With the conversion rate as it sits today its cheaper where I am, which made me excited.

I was in your shoes some 15 years ago. I was struggling to buy a used r6 while paying for rent and bills on a $35k salary. I was so set on a ducati 999, and had saved enough cash for one, but I backed out last minute. Just couldn't spend all my life savings on a rapidly depreciating asset. So I bought a used r6 for $4k instead. Now I can buy any bike I want. If I bought the 999 then, I'd be stuck riding a used r6 now (not that they're bad bikes, arguing in the sake of monetary value). You can either live like a prince early, or live like a king later. And trust me, there are always going to be newer and better bikes that tickle your fancy.

Your money, your decision. Just my 2 cents. Good luck.

Hey I'm happy for you! Glad you noticed the reference haha. You're not wrong about spending an entire life savings for a motorcycle being a bad idea. I whole heartedly agree with you. But I'll be able to make that money back in no time. Again not trying to argue, just making conversation. I appreciate your words.

As many others have said, you know your situation best. Don't worry I'm not here to argue either, just giving you some sincere feedback from my own perspective. I'm not you nor will we walk the same paths in life. So take what I say with a grain of salt. But if it was me, I'd "make that money back" first before I spend it. Especially if it's going to be back in no time. Again that's just me. :)

I'd say go for it if you can do it and still set aside savings that include some for retirement. The insurance is a little ouchy and that alone would have turned me off.

Mate, only you and you alone know your circumstances. All well and good people telling you buy it or not to buy, at the end of the day, if you have your heart set on it and comfortable in buying it, go for it. We all need some sort of transport to get around with, some get around in 2k transport and some get around in 20k transport. It's life's decisions early in the peace that make us what we are when we're older. Good luck with your decision and hope you make the right ☝️. Just me 2 cents worth

Like many have stated only you can make that decision. If i am reading your initial post my thought is you are asking about going into a pit based on the cost of maintaining a Ducati. That all depends on how you ride and how much you ride.

Over the years i have owned several and never found them anymore expensive to maintain then other brands. If you are taken by the V4 and feel that it is good bike for you get one. So you live at home my guess is by the way you post & respond you have a good head on your shoulders. Good Luke with your choice.

You don’t obviously ride much a jap bike is FAR FAR cheaper in parts and servicing.

Imagine the tang you could take back to your parents house with a brand new Ducati:D

Any well kept ducati does just aswell, most women aren’t checking out what’s the latest bikes but can read “ducati” on the tank.

for my HS graduation gift my parents bought me luggage and said GTFO.

I admit I'm a little jealous of Peaches situation. mostly because nothing excites me enough to entice me and I can afford almost anything I could possibly ever want.

you cannot buy your youth back so .... it go for it .

I'll admit, I'm a little jealous of you being able to afford whatever you want. :D

It seems when we're young, we have the time and energy to do anything, but lack the money. When we're older, we have money but no time or energy.

People are saying to wait until I'm older but I don't understand why having a family and mortgage is a good time to buy an expensive toy. Maybe I'm making more money sure, but I'm spending more as well.

ok i will lay this out financially for you. just strictly by the numbers i don't care about your age or mindset or anything like that.

1 you can't afford the bike. you make 35k living at home in California. with no taxes and no bills it would be almost 60 percent of your annual income before taxes.

2 unless your parents are signing for it you won't get a good loan rate

3 you have no bills now but what if you want a nicer car how about a real date you know the ones in CA that cost 300 dollars to take the hottie out that you won't do because. your living on ramen noodles. and the payment is more than you make in a month.

4 what happens when you want to move out can't that place to rent or eventually buy because you wanted a 20k bike.

add insurance minimum will cost you 1000 a year. after taxes.

service gas parts and god forbid you crash it. your digging a hole for a bike. out of your mind. if i were you id take the r6 money and invest it. or better yet move out of CA

do you want me to continue or are you going to say i don't know what I'm talking about.

i want a ferrari i didnt get it because there was other toys i bought first . you know a house a car then bikes i guess enzo has to wait.

Am I taking crazy pills? If I was putting a roof over my kid's head and he/she came home with a brand new Ducati I would kick their ass out!

funny when i was young i was going to the car dealership. i was making good money but living at home. my mother said where are you going. i said I'm getting a car. she said what kind i said mercedes. she said if you come home with a mercedes you better have a place to live too because your not living here for free and driving a mercedes.

on top of that my mother said if you can afford a mercedes you can pay me rent. she said how much is the car i said about 800 a month she said your rent is now 400 a month.

i got an acura this was back in 1999. for half the price the other money went to my mother. come 2003 i went to buy my first house. i was able too because i didnt have an 800 a month car payment. when it came time for the down payment my mother handed me and xtra 20000 . i said whats this. she said the car payments. then said what did you think i was spending your money i don't need your money money wise up

I think you absolutely need to understand the gravity of the purchase you want to commit to.

as quoted from Duc

The Standard V4 is $1,200 more than the outgoing Ducati 1299, and the V4 S is $1,700 more than the 1299 S.

The increased pricing is part of Ducati's desire to make the flagship Panigale more exclusive, and creates more space between the 2018 Ducati 959 Panigale, which will be $15,395.

For those interested in the Ducati Premier Financing program, which is smaller monthly payments and one large balloon payment, the terms are:

(48 months / $2,000 down / +$750 freight / 4.79% interest)
Ducati Panigale V4: $262 / $10,356
Ducati Panigale V4 S: $349 / $13,404
Ducati Panigale V4 Speciale: $522 / $19,429
I just did a rough calculation, you'lll be paying on the bike alone annually, 3,144. At the end of the term (4yrs) you'll would have already paid 12,576 and on top of that you'll need to pay the final BALLON payment of 10,356.

This is not even including the insurance you'll pay, being a low/mid 20s college adult, you'll at least spend 1500 (don't kid yourself this is a modern ducati flagship sports bike) annually for insurance which comes out to be 125 a month.

Finally you'll have to include maintenance which is tires/fluids/checkups, I don't know your riding habits so you'll have to factor that in for this bike.

So on the insurance and monthly payment of the bike you're guarrented to spend 387ish almost 400 a month on the bike alone, I think the members here are right to steer you away. If you don't have a cushy job at the end of your term, you're going to struggle financially for the long term just to indulge your senses. I would not want to be in a situation where you get dinged on your credit and REPOed on the bike.

I'm sensing that you already have your mind made up on getting the bike and are simply looking for a little reassurance.

Is it a good idea to get the bike?
Absolutely not.

Would I have bought the bike had I been in your same situation when I was younger?
Absolutely.

I blew a lot of money when I was younger on cars, and had a blast doing it. Now that I'm older, I wish I made better decisions with that money (and my time)...like many of the others are suggesting.

*Note* I'm assuming you're young. If you're some 40 year old dude, disregard everything I said.
