Bye bye 200/55.

Well the only tire I have wrecked on was Dunlop 207 but that tire is called Q3 nowadays and vastly remastered :D, that is the only tire that I know 1st hand of truly how crappy it is. As for your question at hand, I am not kidding. Metzeler has been lacking lately, M1s were awesome back in the day. Shinko is walmart quality nonsense.

I am going to switch mine to Dunlops in a 190 profile next, as I have already switched to the Dunlop GP Racer 211 200/55 and they are my control tyre on all my bikes for consistency sake. Bike is fine on them, the TC is marginally more intrusive, but I just turn it down. If I want real TC, I will put a Nemesis/Comp Systems package on there where you can alter to any tyre slip map you like. That's a far nicer system than the Ducati standard package.

As for reasons, well, there are hardly any choices in a 200/55 that will handle the wet, and I live in the UK, and we have wet weather. GP211's are OK in the summer with some damp, but for the rain and in winter I usually run Sportsmarts, and they are a 190 section only.

The tyre height difference is 7mm (649mm versus 656mm in a 200/55) so a 3.5mm change in ride height, which is easy to accomodate, then I will have a base setting on 190.

As motoGP bikes run 190 section, and my track bikes run 195/65 - not sure why we are all going to 200 now (other than Aprillia did it first so now we all need to follow!).

This was my question as well when I first started looking into the 1199. The only thing I could think of truly is that is for looks. As we all know there is no standard for measurement with tires. One brands 190 can be anothers 200. I have never seen a Busa sping a 190 off a lunch... that being said... that tire sure does look sexy on the 1199:D

I mulled this around after the Power CUPS kept getting flats. I opted to go back to the SP2's for $440 shipped, and ordered a set of Continental Road Attack 2's in a 200/55 set for later to test them out. They came out to about the $440 for the Pirelli's, but supposedly have better wet traction and life. And let me tell you, I got stuck in the worst storm I've ever ridden back home in on Sunday. I'll swap some dry grip from the Pirelli's for the wet grip of the Continental's. Was a pucker experience...

-- your CUPS kept getting flats ? - what gives ?

The carcass isn't tough enough for street use. Although, I only got flats with a B rear (punctures) . That's what happens when you try to street the lightest/thinnest DOT race tire.

-- i am actually quite surprised in how the stock tire has lasted - and its grip level is certainly good enough for me (street riding only) - however, after countless miles on power-1's on other bikes, i am compelled to try them (power-cup upgrade for 200/55)

-- the CUPS were $415 for the set - so $440 for the sp2's seems ok as well

I didn't have an issue with the C, but that was a ONE not a CUP.

Pulled the trigger today on Bridgestone S20s based on feedback reported by Steve B. Thanks again to him for reporting his experience with them. Going to the Blue Ridge Mountains all next week and needed something that will handle the inevitable rain on the 400+ mile days in sportbike Nirvana, while still being able to shred when conditions are good.

Will report back on my observed differences as I've been running the OEM Supercorsa SP's on a set of S wheels for the last 1,000 miles. The S20's will be mounted on my original base wheels as there is an amazing amount of life left in my Supercorsa SP's after 1600 miles. Of course the rear will be a 190/55 as that is the only appropriate size they have.

-- i'm not quite sure i understand what you're saying......

CUPs superseded ONEs I had a ONE rear in C that I didn't get a flat in and ran through, the other 2 were CUP B's. Both had flats in May, I was tired of throwing money away...

...ok.....now i get it......you tried a C compound as well......the B's that you had flats on....whats caused the punctures ? that problematic ? or you just got unlucky finding something that'd puncture any tire ?

The first one had a staple; the second one, must have been glas or something because there was nothing in the puncture and it stranded me at some seedy place .

Running Supercorsa SC2s now on street and track. Definitely grippier than SPs (front end is phenomenal), but we'll see how they heat cycle and we'll see how long they last.

dunlop Q3

I got a set of q3s intalled yesterday the 190/55 and today I rode the canyons with my buddie and the feeback I can give you guys is that I was impressed how light the tires are the bike turns in with less effort like it lost some weight and I also noticed that is stable while the tire is on the lean I feel I can brake into the lean more , it took me a little while to get used to the front tire once I did the tire inspire confidence by the end of the day I was dragging left and right I also noticed it got hot quick !! Overall I'm happy with my purchase I was getting feed up spending 500 bucks on pirellis evey 4 months Pirellis are great but the q3 do the same but with less money out of my pocket
