Cold Start-Up - bike seems to be trying to go into gear itself....?

Hi Folks,

Picked up a 2024 V4 standard a few weeks ago. Have only managed to put around 400 miles on it so far, however I've noticed something which concerns me a little. Three times over the past couple of weeks, I've started it from cold and while I'm putting my gloves on and letting the bike warm up in neutral, it starts to jerk and make a short 'clunk' noise, almost like it's trying to slip into gear even though I'm nowhere near the shifter. If I pull the clutch in, the clunk goes away but comes back once I've let the clutch out. I've never had it happen when the bike is warm - if I stop for gas, it doesn't do the clunk thing when I start up again.

Anyone come across something similar?

Thanks,

Davy

It sounds like the rear cylinders shutting off.

They are supposed to turn off with engine warm and at zero speed. Pulling the clutch in reactivates the cylinders.

It helps to keep the engine heat down. This is supposed to happen.

I think what you are hearing is your V4 turning into a V2

No - pretty sure it's not this. Seems to be happening before the engine is up to the temperature where the rear cylinders deactivate. I'll check later today, but I'm pretty sure pulling the clutch in doesn't reactivate the rear two - think it's only when a first gear is selected. I could be wrong though...

Thanks for the response!

Pulling in the clutch increases revs a little to help with getting the bike moving. It probably switches from the warm up map to the regular map

A clunk or a pop? Allegedly the new V4s run excessively lean on start up to warm up the cat as quickly as possible and in cold/damp climates can cause the bike to pop.

Been sick for a few days so haven't had a chance to reply. I'm 99.9% sure that SuperDomestique is correct. I started the bike again from cold, revs sat at 2k for around 20 seconds then started to fluctuate along with the popping sound. After another 10 seconds or so it settled down and didn't reoccur during that ride.
