Never had it with my S.

It and rained for two days here and the bike was covered in the garage. Never been wet in rain.

Took it like 10 minutes to fog up and then 10 more to dissipate.

Did not return during my run.

I thought this problem was solved with this next generation of Pani's??

Guess I thought wrong.

so is the "R" worth the extra money? Just curious to hear some real world impressions by someone who has had both. I have the 41t sprocket coming to make my S a little more R like.

I think this cant be solved. I've had my changed once already and still does it.

One member did said, he got a "anti fog" dash from the dealer with some coating on it and has not appeared again yet.

Not sure, but is concerning because its like 2k part. Dont want to have to pay out of pocket after warranty.

Nope, my dealer told me that there is still an issue with the dash when I picked up my R three weeks ago. He proceeded to tell me that he would order a replacement as soon I would experience any problems.

you expect somewho who spent the money on the "R" would think or even admit if it wasnt worth the extra?? :)

Personally I think the Tri looks better and that they are going to have to come with something spectacular if they ever produce a "Corse" version of the R.

Are the fairings on the "R" even CF anymore??? hmmm :/

Nevertheless, still a sexy beast and if you got it like that, then splurge

I rode the S for a day in the CO mountains last year and was amazed with the way it handles and did not visit my dealership since September of last year being afraid I would buy one. I set foot in said dealership a few weeks ago and bought the R because of the way she looked at me. My wife told me I deserved her and it was all over. Only got 250 miles on her so far which means I can't open her up as much as I would like to do a true comparison.
Don't second guess yourself, be happy with your S, I know I would be if I bought her.:D

I know I love the "S" don't get me wrong. It's the best bike I have had. Of course an "R" would be better....lol. It's just that you see some reviews like MCN that says the "R" isn't different enough from the "S" to upgrade. THen you have Antihero who says the "R" is a lot different. I'm curious to hear other's view is all. I know it's probably really hard unless you can ride them back to back.

Has anyone on here done the carbonvani corse fairings? Catalogo prodotti Carbonvani per moto Ducati Streetfighter

corse se scheme looks awesome

I'd say the biggest difference is that it's dangerously addictive. The S wa/is a great bike. The R is more visceral; it demands more of a strong hand and feels more likely to bite if not handled firmly.

The lightened flywheel spins up very fast but no one has mentioned how quickly it spins down due to lack of inertia; thus the engine breaking needs to be minimized else it's very intrusive.

The acceleration is significantly more violent.

The DQS does not like low RPM shifts and lets one know with a bit off a jump. I attribute this to the sprocket changes and the flywheel needing much more throttle to keep it in the happy zone.

I can barely manage the S so the 'R' would probably be beyond me but if money was no object then I'd buy one and add a custom paint job.

I would like to see a comparison of an S with 41 teeth sprocket and full Termis compared to the R. Maybe throw in a lightened flywheel on the S too, haha. Sure it won't have titanium parts, and won't have an extra 500rpm for redline, but I'd imagine it would be close to the R and much cheaper too.

Back to topic, my S dash has condensation build up when I ride when it's a bit cool out and then goes away after. Doesn't really bother me.

I ride mine to work every day rain or shine in the same weather as you, and I haven't had any condensation problems (yet). Mine is a 2013 so maybe I got one of the newer dash revisions.

Glad to hear that my White Base is not the only one experiencing this issue, bike always garaged, had torrential rain here past week and bike didn't get a drop on it but managed to have some condensation on the right side of the dash, took her out into the sunshine and it disappeared quickly, my concern is the internal damage this could cause to the electrics in there in the future, after the warranty runs out!!!! Dealer has been informed of this to cover my arse later, and a copy of the email sent. Still, minor teething issues on these beautifully constructed machines, I am glad to be one of a special group of owners of this model. Would love an R, couldn't justify the extra cost for the road, not at this stage.

I know, because I have one, that the E revision dash fogs just as bad as the earlier revisions, worse in my case. As the F revision dash has only just been released, its not the age of the bike that causes some bikes to fog and others not to, there has to be another explanation. I suspect the average humidity where you live has something to do with it.

There's a rumour floating around that the F revision display has an anti-fog coating, but I'm skeptical of this. Even if it does have a coating, having condensing moisture anywhere inside the dash, think of it as a compact PC or tablet, is fundamentally a bad idea. If the R bikes are coming with the F dash from new, which are also fogging, then the anti fog coating probably doesn't work/exist.

Ducati need to issue a status update on this issue and focus on finding a real solution; probabaly a redesign of the dash. I suspect however, that they will look at this as being too costly to implement, especially once they admit to an issue and have to replace an expensive piece of electronics on every 1199. In the meantime it looks like the stategy is to replace displays where customers complain loudly enough and then wait for warranty to run out. After which owners learn to live with it rather than pay 2k for a new one out their own pocket. This probably isn't costing too much as the new warrenty replacement displays they're issuing will just be reworked warranty returns. I pity the person who got my first display that shorted out due to the condensation inside! I hope they replaced all the electronics in that one.

If I see no progress on this issue with my bike in the next few weeks, I'm going to write to VOSA in the UK (vehicle safety organisation) and point out that not being able to read the speedo is a safety critical issue that needs to be properly addressed by Ducati. Maybe this will help get some traction.

As you can probably tell, this issue is spoling my enjoyment of what is otherwise a superb motorcycle

My 2012 sat outside in weather (including a lot of rain on saturday) this past weekend. No condensation issues.

I would say it's a safe bet that all modules on this bike that include a circuit board have a conformal coating applied to board to protect it from the elements. They are typically weather tested, heat (80 deg c), cold (-20 deg c), humidity, salt and fog, etc... You likely will not experience failures due to condensation.

Mind sharing your bike's build date?

sweet Jesus, that's a pretty awesome birthday present. :D

I just sold a set to a guy, actually his GF bought him the entire Corse set for his birthday-how cool is that? Hopefully he will post them up for us here once received and mounted up. :D

I have condensation issues. Took pictures and showed dealer. He said the Ducati rep stated that the screen is not sealed, therefore, condensation will occur. No solution provided.

I will be bringing this issue up again, as it fogs up the whole screen at times and is a legitimate safety concern.
