Condensation inside of the R dash screen this AM.

I'm bringing this issue back up as mine is doing it in cool weather. My bike is 10 months old but was a leftover 2011 model. I've had the "fogging" inside the dash happen a few times. Yesterday the sun was hitting it directly for several miles and I literally could not read the speed or most of the tach unless I used one hand to shade it.

My bike is never kept outside, and has never been washed with a a hose. It was fogged virtually the entire 140 mile ride, but as I said I could read it expect when sun was hitting it. When the sun hits it the condensation actually causes a rainbow on the dash.

I'll be contacting my dealer.

I wrapped my dash with 3m clear vinyl and wrapped it around the edges with heat gun after that i poured some water on the dash i was like new no FOGIN at all Job done.

I've had it happen very infrequently on mine(totally at random), and at times I wouldn't expect.
Never after it's been washed Probably because I cover the dash with a thick cloth so water can't get blown into the dash:confused:

It seems changes in climatic conditions can cause it to happen when you just start out on the ride, and the sun hits it and warms up the front cover.
Sort of after a cold damp night.
It clears eventually after it's warmed up so I don't worry about it any more even though I used to when the bike was new.
I think you'll find that the condensation is only under the top cover of the dash, or at worst it's under the top layer of the TFT screen.

I'm on my third dash which works out to be the MK 5 dash.
Which yours will already have.

Anyway as far as I'm concerned the bike is so ....... good that bits could be falling off as I'm going down the road, and I couldn't care less.
I'd just stop and pick up the bits and take them home with me to put back on at my pleasure.
Or put new bits on as required:D

So far I've only lost 1 fairing screw(replaced), and the clutch fluid reservoir cap which was lost on the first ride home(not fitted tight enough from factory and replaced under warranty).

the solution they came up with was to make sure the dash is now aired... so the condensation disappears when it heats up and gets ventilated

So far this has only happened to me once, on a cool morning when it had rained overnight so it was humid. Is the general consensus that replacing it won't help? My dash needs to replaced anyway as it has some bubbling on it. Should I hold out for a newer dash redesign in the future?

I'm going on record now with my dealer. Every bike I've had for over 40 years has had a glass lens over it and I've never had one fog up to where I can't read it before. If they will replace it I'm getting it replaced. And if the second one fogs, I'm going back again.

I can live with a manufacturer making mistakes, but I can't live with one that does not stand behind them and fix the mistakes.

Agreed...This is one glaring unsolved issue that Ducati has failed to face up to.... What happens to us all when the warranty expires????

Not sure but the 98 series had big issues with expanding tanks and that never got resolved.

You've got it all wrong.
It's not a mistake.

What you're actually dealing with is a feature of the bike.
I know it wasn't promoted in the checkmate video. But it's a feature none the less, which contributes inextricably to the character of the brand.

There will be no more dash redesigns in the future.
It looks like DUCATI has drawn the line under it at the MK 5.

I think you'll also find that you'll have to fight tooth and nail to get warranty replacements like all of us early adopters did.
I'm on number 3 now, and I personally don't expect to be able to get any more out of them.
It's one of the main reasons why I couldn't face it with the 1199 SL. So I passed on it.

That is a very good question;)

I suppose this forum will be a leading sopository of knowledge in the future regarding the outcome.

Hopefully more repository than suppository:D

I don't think that is true. A friend of mine has an 1198 that they replaced the tank and it has been fine for four years ever since then.

Yes replaced with the exact same plastic tank that will expand again some time in the future.

Interesting read, mine too fogged up, on one hot day there was excessive fog behind the screen and then several small cracks appeared on the screen, anyone else had this happen. Still waiting on getting the opportunity to take it to the shop for warranty

As an update to my posts above, my dealer has been authorized to replace mine. He said they are working on a fix and claim it's caused by light magnifying through the windshield. My bike almost never sits out in the sun, and I have a dark tinted shield so I'm not buying that, but as long as they are working with me and working on a fix I don't care what they think is causing it. At least they acknowledge they know there is a problem.
