I'm digging up an old thread. I'm replacing the Water Wetter with Prestone just for storage in case my garage dips below freezing. However, I only was able to fill about 1.5 liters of coolant in the radiator versus the 2L in the spec.

I realize there are hoses and passage ways that need to be filled. I've run the motor, warmed it up and topped it off but I'm unable to fill it with a full 2L of coolant.

Any ideas why?

I had same issue just a month ago when I swapped out the stock fluids on my V4.

I filled up the radiator and put about 3 inches of WW in the expansion tank on right side

Then I heat cycled the engine on a short drive and had to put more in the expansion tank several times. Just a inch or two at a time.

The last time I added some, it kept the level constant. even on a Saturday 300 mile journey

Eventually, I was very close to the 2 L

Any tips to completely flush out if I'm switching from factory Agip(pink stuff) to Motul Motocool Expert (yellow stuff)?

Open the drain bolt remove the radiator cap and squeeze the hoses you can touch.

Then refill the amount that you lost and get a couple heat cycles you will find that you end up having to add more and more to the expansion tank on the right side. Once the level there is constant you’re good.

To completely get out everything you’re going to have to flush with some distilled water and get a couple heat cycles as well.

Thanks!

Would you recommend I use something like radiator cleaner (photo attached below) during the distilled water flushing stage?

I’ve never used that I cannot speak to its effectiveness. And I’ve always flushed my Ducati’s early and often…. Never had any issues.

I don’t run any antifreeze though, the bike never sees freezing temps

Oh, for reference, it took me about 1.5 gallons of distilled water before all of the pink was gone.

But I know that doesn’t get everything you will have to do heat cycles and more flushing

Word of advice. I switched to WaterWetter for track use. I recently open trailered my bike from AZ back home to CO. Temps were above freezing most of the trip back except for an hour or two where they dipped to the 20's coming over the passes. Apparently that was enough to pop a weld seam on my radiator. Dumb. Don't be like me.
