i checked out the D-Air suit today and while the technology is amazing it's $2500 for a cow hide suit.

The other massive disadvantage is you have to send it back to Dainese if the airbags deploys and the turnaround time will be in excess of 2 weeks.

If you are to get a custom fit it will be $5k.

A friend of mine bought one and unfortunately deployed it at our last track day. He came out just fine but the HP4 didn't walk away as well as he did. I'm waiting to hear back from him on the report from Dainese on the crash.

Hopefully in the near future the two week period will be less once they can reset them stateside. I do love the technology tho and am interested in the suit.

...., after a wreck I may want two weeks off...

I would pay $2500 for an air bag suit even if it could only be used one time and then thrown away, it's still way less expensive than ER bills! Dainese says the air bags won't deploy in a low speed/lowside crash, so that should help if you know it will only go off when you REALLY need it.

that's interesting i was not aware it would not go off on lowspeed/lowside crashes.

i wonder how much a kangaroo version will cost.

Jarel is correct. If I remember correctly, it activates once you go over 30mph. I'm looking into buying one for 2016.

Yeah, they said the sensors are smart enough to know when it's a lowside with a slide, vs. a lowside with a tumble, and it will only deploy in the scenario where there would be a benefit. And will only deploy in a crash where the rider is moving at over 50 km/h.

The suits have GPS built into them so it knows how fast you are going. The electronics is sophisticated enough that it can detect a pot hole and a crash. And since it does not have a tether, you wont accidently walk away from your bike with tether attached...:)

The suits don't have to be sent to Italy when the bag needs to be replaced. They will be fixed at Dainese USA headquarters in Costa Mesa, CA initially - then after we get training, all certified D-Air dealers will be able to replace and repack the suits.

We just received our first batch of D-Air suits Monday...:)
I know some one that can hook you up...

My friends wreck was a lowside but somehow in all the sliding he managed to do some sort of cartwheel and it deployed. He was behind me so I didn't see it but he managed to scuff his helmet and visor so it was smart enough to know he wasn't in a nice slide position.

Worth every penny to me for that kind of protection! Unless your one of those Saftey 3rd kinda guys...

riding a bike, esp on the street, puts u in the safety 3rd or worse... lol..

how much did ABS cost when it first came out for cars? how much does it cost now?

there you go.

Part of that has to do with it being a government regulated requirement for most bikes being made now. The EU got bikers standard ABS. Maybe they'll get us standard air bag suits too.

I've seen a guy in Dijon this year that crashed his R pretty badly.
He wore a D-Air and it ignited. Almost every part of the leathers was pretty much ripped away, but his helmet had no scratch. He only broke a rip.

This thing really works! I have a D-Air one-piece since 2014 and this accident convinced me that this is a good investment.

But it's use is intended for track, since it is not electronically connected to the bike like other systems (eg. Multistrada). It has a standalone system with its own GPS sensor/accelerotmeters in the back hugger.

In this case, going bling is not a bad thing, even if you are a amateur or advance rider....ironically, amateur probably need it more than advanced rider.

itz less than half (or so) of ur average insurance deductible, esp post obummercare premium ramp (and only gettin worse)...

You can order this suit from overseas for about $1700 shipped. They don't have it yet but they will ship soon as it arrives. That's $800 off a brand new suit. If anyone is interested, motoin.de

Best prices on the internet anywhere. Have purchased lots of gear from them recently. No customs issues at all.

No one has mentioned the $250 it cost to reset/recharge the suit if the airbags deploy ....and that doesn't include any repairs that may be required to the suit it self :).

That's why I just order the Aero Evo D1

You are correct sir as I just found that out myself when my buddy dropped his off on Sat. to be sent in for reset.

I guess you have to ask yourself if it's worth not having a broke collar bone? His titanium shoulder plate was dents in from impact.

The charge is for a new air bag and new gas unit plus return shipping.
It is reasonable.

there seems to be no argument that someone in a D Air suit is better off in a crash than someone without one.

hence, economic value arguments become moot, even ironic among owners of one of the most expensive superbikes on the market.
