Dash-ECU Failure

turned ignition off, removed key to open gas cap......engine was still running :) - granted it was an older 916....but i feel compelled to share :)

Just a quick update on the dash/ECU issue….
Turning the bike off and waiting a few minute resets everything – the dash and right turn signal functions correctly; however, within 3 miles of riding the dash/ECU fails again (with the same symptoms as noted originally in this thread).
I have stopped, turned the bike off and had this happen four times since I first posted the issue and it does not appear related to heat. That is, the dash/ECU will work again if the bike is left to cool, or just a few minutes and is around 200 degree F.
Looks like I will have to make the 600 mile ride to St. Louis to get a new dash/ECU (again).
The dealer is

The dealer is

Mail your bike to Trauma... he will get it fixed and mail it back...:D

you can transfer the miles on the new dash from the BBS or the Engine ECU via the DDS in the dealer

when you switch the ignition off on your 1199...you have to wait 90 sec for the electronics to reset. not off then on in 10sec...that wont work. 90sec people

this happened to my friend and his dealer said no they cannot transfer the miles. so whats true?

Strange as it is in this day and age the new dash can not be pre programmed with the distance travelled prior to dash swap.

There will be a paper trail and service records though. Mine was replaced yesterday.

Trade cost price on the dash here in Aus was $1100.00 ouch, thank god for warranty.

I asked my dealer about the Version 4. They told me that they will check to see if there is an issue with my current one and see when I come by....

To me, if there is new version dash is published by the Ducati, it should be replaced if customer wants it. No?

You can try... But to the best of my knowledge Ducati work on the premise that you only get replaced what needs replacing not what is simply updated... RH Fairing with oil inspection hole being a case in point...:)

also, this dealer is not from the one you go to.

seems the dash/ecu issue is indeed related to the heat. mine has same issue as you guys, seems to crop up when bike temp exceeds 100 C but dash/signal lights and horn works normal when bike is cold on startup.. ducati needs to sort this out or maybe have another heat shield casing or cooling solution for the ecu's ?

Mine hasn't failed , is this related to heat in the dash possibly related to engine heat radiating upwards. I'm surprised that some have 4 failures and others have 0.

Could it also be related to continuous running for extended periods (hours)?

Hope this doesn't happen to me as I'm still on the original version of the dash.

I am having the Right signal not working. Dash is to be replaced to fix the problem.

OK, took mine to the dealer, rode the bike in - everything worked again while cold, by the time I got to the dealer, no worky. Then I made the mistake of shutting the bike off to go get the service guy to come see the malfunction. of course it had reset, so dealer has the bike now, says they can't do anything unless they can replicate the fault. They were clueless about the dash problems.
