Dash-ECU Failure

Latest update, dealer called yesterday, said they never could replicate the problem but had sent a note to Ducati describing the problem. Duc responded and said to replace the dash - at least THEY had a clue. Now waiting for the dash. This is the sort of flaw that tells me to sell the Pani before warranty runs out. Anyone recall how long that is?

The warranty? You bought a 20K bike and don't know your warranty? 2 years / unlimited mileage lol.

At 2500 miles I watched a diode heat up in my dash and melt and almost catch fire.

My dealer replaced my dash and on the ride home the new dash fogged up.

My dealer said he would order a new one and asked me in the mean time could I take a photo of the fogged up dash. I had not had a chance to take the photo because my bike kept needing to be in the shop for other issues.

Each and every time I took my bike in, I would tell them to take there own photo and to replace my fogging dash, each time they would say "we will replace your dash".

Every time I went in, to pick up my bike, I would ask about my dash and the reply would be "Dash? What Dash?"

That's when my dealers service manager told me the fix was for him to drill a bunch of holes in the back of my dash, thus letting out any moisture forever.

I asked are you kidding me??? No he was not kidding me.
I went off on the dealer and he called Ducati North America.
After his call he said "you should feel lucky they are replacing your dash, Ducati dosent cover fog in the dash, but this time they will."
I went off on the dealer again about how he installed a broken part that fogged up 3 miles from his install.
I talked to "John" at Ducati North America, the west cost contact for the dealers.he told me the fog was normal and Ducati had no problems with the dash units. But for ME they would replace it.

I told him maybe he should get to know his product better and read a blog or two and look to see why the dash are on-order.

This is only the tip of my 1199s ABS Problems my bike is still in the shop going on 3 weeks for other issues that I will post after they find the fix.

Or maybe they will just want to drill holes all over my motor to fix that.

I'm so disappointed with my Dealer and Ducati North America

That's exactly what I was told about my fogging dash. Doesn't happen all the time, just enough to be irritating. But, my dealer never recommended drilling holes in it! Are you sure you want them working on your bike? What else is going on?

No I don't want them working on my bike but they have it all apart and Ducati North America will not let me change dealers tell they resolve the major issues.

DUCATI North America "John" is sending a new dash and a special tool to my Dealer to help try to diagnose my motor issues. The same issues the dealer is clueless about and and have been dealing with for two months with it being in the shop for going on 3 weeks

I will post all about it after I get my bike back

Damn, that's awful... Hopefully the new "tool" they're sending is a crate engine. Sorry to hear this, hang in there.

Thanks for your kind words. Ducati should have someone like you working for them.

Trying to go up the chain of command in Ducati for me, is like trying to get into Fort Knox with my Ducati key. I'll keep trying to get someone in Ducati to Hear me.

But thanks again for your kind words.

and +1 Dash needs Ducati R & D to work to fix the issues.

-- i'm not trying to diminish the importance you're giving the process of repairing it all - i would however suggest that you stay focused on enjoying the bike - the details of a foggy instrument panel will fade away after you go thru the gearbox a few times (and the fog will dissipate as well with a little wind) - not taking it overly serious will help you enjoy it all....the dash hasn't exploded, or been rendered useless...i'd agree "it may not be perfect"...but your duc doesn't need a fog free dash 100% of the time....like lights, blinkers and mirrors, on ducatis, they are an after thought :)

Look if my issues were just a Dash issue I would not even be posting it on here, as I had said in my post I will update you all with the other issues as soon as I get my bike back from the dealer. I only chimed in on the Dash issue because that was the thread.

so as far as my other issues you will see them on "Ducati Motor heads I need your help" when I post updates AFTER I get my bike back. :) I'm guessing I have 5000 miles on my bike and 4000 are from ridding to the dealer to have it fixed and back.

Hi Supernova1199, sorry to hear about your bike dramas.

I read on a previous post about a Texas consumer law called the lemon law. Maybe there is something like this in California.

My rough recollection is that if you were without your bike new for 3 months and un able to ride it or that it had gone back to the dealer for the same fault x number of times that you may be entitled to a refund or exchange. I stand to be corrected but I think that was the gist of it.

The fog is always at its worst in the morning. Get the sun behind you before taking a picture with the bike running or better still video. Use the words "this is a safety issue" and send a copy to Ducati, your dealer and your local consumer service.

My dealer also said to get a picture of the dash but when I told him about the indicator issue he said not to worry about the fog picture that it was easier to just claim a new dash based on the indicator fault instead. My dash replaced last thursday.

Best of luck mate, nothing worse than bad after sales service and having to fight for your basic rights.
