Dash-ECU Failure

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

OK, so I asked Ducati customer support in Italy to give me an update on the 1199 display issues (fogging and non-functioning left handlebar controls) experienced by a number of 1199 owners. Their over the phone response was that there are no known issues with the display on the 1199, but they would look into it with the "technical department" and call me back.

A day later they had customer services at Ducati UK call me to again confirm that there are no known issues with the 1199 display.

During my conversation with the UK customer services rep I referenced this forum and the many owners who had experienced one or both of the display issues, I also offered to send them images of the faulty display on my bike. Their response was the pictures could be of a bike other than mine and that the dealer needed to see the fogging first hand - which they have already done - go figure?

Ducati UK customer services only seemed interested in whether my dealer was promptly processing another warranty claim for my faulty(?) display.

There can be no doubt that Ducati are aware that a significant number of 1199 owners that have reported issues with the 1199 display via their dealers; they just need to count the number of displays replaced under warranty to see the pattern. So only conclusion I can draw is that customer services have be instructed not to enter into any discussion on the subject or in any way admit a fault.

As they won't discuss the matter directly, I'm going to write to my dealer, copying Ducati customer services, formally highlighting the fault so that I have it documented while my bike is still under warranty.

I'm also not going to accept another replacement display (3rd one) unless it comes with a technical explanation as to what changes have been made to the F revision display to resolve these issues.

This kinda BS is whats gonna drive me away for Ducati... They damn well know there's an issue!!! Why be so coy about it??

They just want to keep a lid on it, and not let it get out into the wider domain.
Commercially, it could be disasterous for DUCATI.
Outside of these forums nobody would know.
These internet forums have given me info before the dealer has recieved it.
Info on internet forums motivated me to get my Streetfighter:):):) as oposed to something else.

I ring my dealer and tell him what's going on. He says he hasn't recieved any notification yet. I say watch this space, and remember who told you first;)

Then he calls me up a few days later and says i finally got that notification. When do you want to book it in.
So far it's happened with the recalls, the updated map and dash revisions and revised/modified parts.

Same same.
I'm IN LOVE with my bike, but I can't have it with no warranty. I'd say I'm a decent chance of going to an R1 or similar, tricked out and ride the piss out of it with no concern for longevity and reliability.
It's no Pani, but there's a lot to be said for piece of mind I'm starting to think.

I've had 3 busas in the past. Never had a single issue of any kind. Nothing. Nada. And I railed on those things. Drag raced them etc.

The jap bikes are not even close to the EVENT that is every ride on the Pani, but then the Pani asks big price, in every sense of the word.

Either way, once the warranty is up, I'm out. If I can't afford the change- over on a 2014 Pani, there's a real chance Ducati will loose a potential life long customer.
They have no one to blame but themselves.

Just my 2c.

+1

My dealer had nothing on their computer about this when I brought it in. Had to call Ducati to find out there was a problem. I think they're just denying it to avoid a full-on warranty recall. That'd be a massive cash flow issue to replace all those dashes at once. They're hoping to buy time till our warranties expire. That's not going to happen to me.

Maybe we can get some numbers here the short and sweet of it is? My first dash was due too a diode melting and the second was fogging how about you?

2 issues at once.
fogging (which I had from the beginning)
right indicator malfunction (3 weeks prior to replacement) failed at approx 9,000klm

Do you really think so?

It would be a bad move to have ill intents like that from Ducati or is something else?

Yeah Ducati can save some $$ but in a long run, pissing off Ducati owners...they lose tremendous amount of customers and those who hear about this as well.

Mine is having the same issues. I spoke to Ducati and they mentioned a new service bulletin will be coming out shortly and they will be replacing wire harness.

I picked up my 2012 Pani Base w/o ABS a couple weeks ago. From the 2nd ride with less than 100 miles I experienced the "no right turn signal" and "non-functioning up menu button" issues. My bike now has 420 miles on it and the problem is intermittent. I saw this thread and have followed it for the last week.

This past Saturday (May 11) I was at Ducati Daytona in Florida and the service manager told me a new service bulletin had just been issued for these symptoms, and as piskapo said above, it is a replacement of the wiring harness. He checked with parts and they said Ducati NA has the parts in stock and was shipping them supposedly this week.

If this is indeed the case, it would explain why replacing the dash for Supernova and others on here has not fixed the problem.

I have not experienced the dash fogging issue so no help there.

Supposed to be taking in my Pani for the first service and warranty work for this wiring harness next week sometime, I will report back results.

Of note, I had new symptoms during my last ride:
In addition to all of the usual failures (see page one of my original post, above), the left turn signal would stay on (very dangerous) and I could no longer activate the high beam.
