Dash-ECU Failure

The warranty? You bought a 20K bike and don't know your warranty? 2 years / unlimited mileage lol.

No, I hadn't committed it to memory being relatively new (2nd Duc) to Ducatis. I guess the old salt Ducatistas learn to watch that date like a hawk. I think it's going onto my calendar given the cost of some of these issues.

I was out for a ride yesterday in relatively cold weather. While that in and of itself is no news this year, the performance of the dash-ECU in the cold weather provided additional insight about its malfunctioning.
As a result of the cold temperatures outside, I was able to ride the bike for a few hours with the temperature of the engine remaining below 190 degrees F. During this time the dash-ECU did not malfunction.
As outside temperatures became warmer during the afternoon, so did the operating temperature of the engine. Once the operating temperature approached 200 F the dash malfunctioned again. This leads me to believe that the malfunction is heat sensitive.
Now what I do with this information beyond sending it to Ducati via my dealer (done) is a mystery.

My new dash (well, the second new one actually) is now in at the dealer. So, some time in the next month or so I will ride the 600 miles to the dealer and get it installed. Hopefully this will fix the issues. I cannot afford this bike if this continues after the warranty is up.

Funny thing is that my dealer told me that there is an issue with the dash when I brought my bike in to see why the up map for the termis didn't take.
He told me he would order the dash if I noticed any malfunctions.

I heard its something like $2k.

So as far as we know the ' F' or 5th iteration works?? or no??:(

Well that's not bad news..but my original lasted 4000 miles.. so I guess there's a long way to go before we know??

I'm not worried at all, but the longevity is trending down.
The first one lasted 3551 Kms till Nov '12.
The second lasted 859 Kms till Apr '13.
This one ?????

Maybe we could run a dead pool?

So how long after the ECU flash did your dash fail?

IIRC is was a while... I think I had the reflash done at around 1500...dash first failed at around 3700.(very intermittent at that point).. but I am reaching here into the dark misty parts of my memory..lol

I thought it was the flash that created the issue

I have no idea...But in my experience I dont feel there's a link.... But not sure anyone (including Ducati) has an answer...But its very disappointing...Had my Diavel dash crap out too so there's obviously an issue in QC here... Given its cost ($2k??)+many Hrs labour... I am not keeping this bike beyond the warranty period... I couldn't stomach paying so much for a part that..as of right now.. still appears not to be reliable...

I love my dash and I think it coolest part of the Pani, but man...if it goes poof, we are screwed.

I think Ducati should warranty this even after 2 years, since it is somewhat unlike other parts of the bike no?

I'm on my 3rd Dash this one Ducati says has a new Anti-Fog coating. My first dash melted and my second dash fogged up on the way home from install. My dealer told me that Ducati said that my dash Fogging over was not an issue.

I called DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and they said send Ducati this.

S5.Requirements. S5.2.2 Display illumination and operation. If an item of equipment listed in Table 2, Column 1, is provided, the display for such item shall be visible to a seated operator under daylight conditions, shall illuminate as specified in Column 2, and shall operate as specified in Column 3.

They said the key word is Visible and when I told Ducati that, They replaced my dash with a new anti-fog coated dash

So, after the new Anti Fog one, it fixed the issue?

Yes so far so good, I have not rode early morning yet but i did ride up to 5000+ feet and no issues so far my face shield fogged up but not my dash :) ill check early morning soon and report back:)

Mine is having the same issues. I spoke to Ducati and they mentioned a new service bulletin will be coming out shortly and they will be replacing wire harness.
