I don't have the 899 anymore. Sold it in January thats why I need to buy a new bike and thought maybe get the v4 incase I outgrow the v2 soon.
I doubt youve outgrown a V2, lets be honest , nobody on this forum has

Its very hard to wheelie a V4 unless you remove all the electronic and throttle limits. On the highest level of DWC I don't think it will at all. Even on the lower ones it limits the speed in which the front wheel raises and keeps it from getting too high. A lot of guy complain about the throttle restrictions, but go on to say how after removing them they don't like the wheelies because it effects lap time.

Comparing to a 1299, I could not get the SFV4 to wheelie except in the way upper ranges of revs. The 1299 is a quick 1/4 blip of the throttle in first at any rpm over 5000 and up she goes, like an elevator.

Enter V4 Bren tuning...

With full power available in the first 4 gears, the SF, despite having a longer swing arm, goes up. Granted it takes a solid whack of the wrist over 7-8000 but the wheel lofts right up in second.

If I had to compare engines, it would be 1299 > RSV4 > V2 > V4. After a Bren Tune, the RSV4 and V4 are about the same, giving nod to the Ape having a better sound while doing its business.

My .02, save about $10k and get a good used 1299.

My 1199 would power wheelie pretty easily but its a detriment to performance.

True, and that is for sure the case on track. That being said my 1299 lap time at Jennigs was 2 seconds quicker than the RSV4 that I had tracked the past year, and that was after my first session on it, having never ridden a Duc. I'm sure the RSV4 would demolish the 1299 on a big track.

End of the day I don't get paid to ride, so it's whatever is the most fun. Power wheeling 3 to 4 past the start finish is a hoot. Watching Josh Herrins YouTube channel and all his hooligan antics in the canyons just reminds me, I am not alone in preference for a torquey two pot.

My GF has the V2 and after putting an Arrow slip-on and T-800 up-map its a bit more engaging for me to ride from time to time. I still like my V4 and miss the 1199s power and feel.

Not sure if 955cc and the V2 would ever check the boxes for me completely but it is a Ducati and has all the great qualities of a V2.

One thing that aggravates me about the bike are the cast wheels and the suspension, but I think if I was doing a V2 for myself I would upgrade those bits first.

General response to everyone who mentioned the 1299 / 1299s my friend has one with brentune, akra exhaust k&n filter. He complains sometimes how he has to fight the wheelie so much, too much torque it even comes up at fourth gear. The bike is too hyper for me.

Another thing why I mentioned wheelies is because I have a 1/4 mile pretty close to me and during spring/ summer they have street legals everyday and my kids always want me to put on a show for them for fun. I know these aren't drag bikes but to me it will be a cheap(50 admission) Friday family fun thing.

I know not many people mention the anything about the drag strip on these bikes because thats not what they're meant to do but anyone has any experience taking their bike to do a 1/4 run? If so what times did you get and what method did you use launching the bike. Last year was my first time doing it on a 2006 gsxr600 , I was worried about looping but realized how sticky the track actually is.. ill try post some time slips and what after each event regardless of whichever bike I get v4/v2.

had a 17 or 18 tuono 1100 v4f which is torquier than an RSV4 in the usable range ... I prefer the Duc V4 engine. Also had a 20 Super Duke that I sold because I wasn't riding it (it was great for street riding/canyon carving though).

I'm a big fan of the Duc 1100 V4 powerplant.
