Differences between Ducati V4 and V4S

thx @burton
if i primarily ride on the street (track days are few and far between) would i benefit (safety) from the V4S vs the V4? i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the real world advantages.

buying a 24k(cdn) and 32k motorcycle is significant.

context: riding for about 20 years. been to the track a dozen times. at the peak i was riding with the fast guys in the middle group. but now,.. rides are less and less often. ..lost my edge ;)

but always loved the panigale....

My 2cents.
The BPF fork on the base is a very accomplished fork .It is found on many bikes and has proven to be a race winner over and over.
The S has the added value of on the fly adjustability .
This is kind of negated by the fact that once set up for rider, the BPF is plush as well as capable as needed on the road .
The rims are also a bit lighter, and this may be felt when pushing hard.

So is the S worth the extra $$ ?

Only you can decide. To be quite honest, I am strugling with the same choice.

But the S has an unpainted black plastic front fender... Saves the weight of the paint. That alone justifies the price difference.

No, you've got it all wrong.
They are just "allowing" us to purchase a carbon fender.....

So I'm considering a V4 but will almost never track the bike. Is it really worth getting the S? Of course I'd like it but I question if it is necessary.

Buying a ducati is unnecessary. Do what makes you happy.

Hahaha.. ^^^ This.

If you want it, get it. If you don't care for electronic gadgetry or the convenience of it all, don't bother.

Personally, I'm constantly changing the setup for different tracks and/or conditions, so I enjoy having it. But, necessary.. well.. uhh.. /shrug.

Wonder if you would share your setting experiences. Maybe a new thread.

Getting mine coming Friday and it would be nice to get some setup info.
I am 185lbs all dressed up.

You say you won’t track it but what kind of riding will you be doing. Do you usually change parts on your bikes. As mentioned before there no necessary reason to buy a Ducati. If you want one then get one. If you upgrade things just get the S as you almost always spend more. If it was track only or focused the base might be a better starting point imho.

Thanks for the advice. I'm definitely getting one and maybe the S is better for just buying and leaving it alone aside from minor changes. I'd mainly be riding street.

For what it's worth, I have a base and treat it that way (leave it alone). I intend to track it at some point but it's mostly a bike for the twisties. Base suspension is more than up for that challenge and any other challenge you can think of. Agree with others - get what you want, but unless you're a person who loves to make changes, the base can and will suit your needs.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for.

Get what you want, but I decided to buy an S for the wheels and suspension, yes it's electronic but it is Ohlins! Also, I don't find myself searching for forged wheels and an Ohlins upgrade like I did on every other cycle I owned. But as others have said, the base suspension is likely more than enough for 95% of us on the rode and probably on the track.

What about the electronics does the base have Slide, wheelie, launch control and all the other benefits of the S?

What is wrong with you guys? LMMFAO you don't have to change a thing on the base model to ride hard street or track that thing !!. I've kept my 1199 bone stock and same on my V4 and will go head to head with someone with the same riding ability and a "better" suspension.

The fact is, if you're asking other folk if you should buy the S over the base means yours not at a level to even appreciate the different in feel and or character.

Especially on the street, even with canyon riding you won't know the different or even what to tweak if you're asking which to buy SMH. Just get the bike in your budget or ball out if you please and have fun man.

That's all !!

I totally agree, get the base and a reputable race exhaust (with a tune/upmap) and you'll dust anything out there !! And if its in the budget get some BSTs and you'll even look better lol

Spot on . I rode my base at the track bone stock it's a reallly capable bike you will never out ride it on the street . Get the S if you like the look of Gold forks that's the only difference .
