here's a vote for the S-where I live, the inconsistent streets pretty much require suspension changes on the fly to really enjoy the ride..anything other than town setting in the city is a bone crusher and in the canyons, sport and track set ups are a button press away

Too pompous....OMG...Wait till PA chimes in.....Somebody didn't take there big boy vitamins today I guess...In the owners manual it states V4 only for track use!!!
I'm with lex although I know nothing about the V4S, My 1199 with manual Ohlins can be as harsh as can be unless you adjust it for a super soft ride. But my GS although not a sport bike is quite easy to completely change it's attitude with the push of a button.

I think the guy probably did the wrong thing asking you nobs advice on a purchase but my take on it is if your going to ride variable surfaces and .... all track days bar a few, buy an S and make use of the tech. I'm sure you will advise me if I'm wrong :rolleyes:
 
Throw in the full Akra exhaust on an S (boosts power up to 226bhp) and you have as near as dammit the Speciale minus the paintwork and trinkets, for around $7K less.

I would rather get the base like I did on my 1299 and add my own rear sets, exhaust, carbon fiber, seat, suspension, adjustable levers, lights, mirrors and everything else I added to my taste. Instead of getting a 1299s with all the parts ducati added, then removing them and adding mine. Same why I would never buy a CVO harley. Its all their parts and I would still change it up to my style like Ive done on my harleys. Why spend that extra money if only to remove the parts anyway.
 
I bought a V4S because they didn't have a V4 available... the suspension is amazing but my skills are not a match so it was a waste of money...

If I could do it again I will buy the regular V4 and add the Akrapovic race exhaust

My bike will never see the track... I only enjoy high speed pulls on the highway

Hi, just bought the base a couple of days ago because yes it was about six grand cheaper and I can add some personnel stuff. I think that's one of the great things about Ducati motorcycle's, it's a combo of art and engineering and then the owner can make it a personnel piece of art. Leonardo Da Vinci lives on!

There is little difference if you set them up for similar conditions.
The plus of the s is that you can adjust set up quickly for different conditions.
Also the s looks better at Starbucks.

I'd love a S with manual Ohlins. But I think that's what they call a R.........

Yep, I have an S and here in Australia, on the goat tracks we call roads ,even on the softest settings the damping is way too harsh. Buy the base and spend a bit on getting the suspension re-valved to suit you.
 
I rode in street mode over the weekend and that seemed to soften things out a little. Once back into the twisties I changed back to race mode.
