Hey gentlemen,

I searched the forum and I could only find DQS topics within the Panigale forum.

I have a 2018 Supersport S and I have continuosly problems with the DQS while downshifting from 3rd to 2nd.

On a fresh ignition cycle everythink seems to work fine, but after a while of driving (~100km) it starts to get into some problems while downshifting.

When shifting down from 3rd to 2nd (only experineced from 3rd to 2nd, all other shift work properly) with DQS it feels like the 2nd gear is engaged (engine brake deceleration feelable) and after app. 1-3 s suddenly the gear gets lost and I end up without any gear engaged. Re-engaging the gear then with an upshift (using clutch) result in a heavy clunk and engaging 2nd gear.

If that happens during a corner the bike massively looses stability and I nearly had an accident twice.

If the problem occurs once, you can reproduce it very often and it also happens when you push the lever very hard (so it was cleary a full shift).

Does anyone else have similar experience on the Supersport S DQS?

Thank you very much in advance!

Hi Annodomini,
I was wondering if you you ever resolved the downshifting problem on your bike? I'm having the same exact problem with my 2017 Monster 1200s. Only from 3rd to 2nd using DQS. Bike starts to engine brake then pops out of gear.
Thank you!

Hi,

not yet. I just informed my dealer of the problem, as soon as I find time I will bring my bike and check DTC's.

In any case as soon as I have more information I will update this post

Hi Annodomini, I had the exact same issue while i was in the canyons! went into neutral and crossed the double yellow. luckily there was no oncoming traffic. Following to see your update.

Next time im out, i am thinking of disabling DQS to see if the problem still exist. if not, it could be a malfunction DQS?

One tip from me, since I’ve been having DQS issues on both bikes.

Shift with authority. I’ve had a handful of times where I know I didn’t press down or up hard enough with my boot causing issues. But the good news is you didn’t break your bike... they do that

Yea, there were couple false neutrals where i didnt shift fully, i felt those. but on this specific one, i know 100% i shifted fully and with authority. Which got me a bit worried.

It was weird too, going into the corner before the turn in point, shifted from 3rd to 2nd, while trail braking, 2nd gear in tact, turned in, before apex it pops into neutral. so couple secs of lag.

Yeah and then you have to process it and realize you need to squeeze the clutch.
idk sounds like a scenario that could result in a crash, but hey: as long as the engine isn’t smoking and you’re still getting good power.
Intermittent issues are the worst to diagnose. Interested to see if turning off DQS helps but I don’t think DQS is the issue here.

is this a 1 time problem at this point? is DQS working perfectly for you?

That was a one time thing from 3rd to 2nd false neutral.

However, I have a reoccurring issue where if i am gunning it from a straight, stopped or rolling, I cannot shift from 2nd to 3rd at around 6k rpm, no matter how hard i try. all other gears are fine. this scenario can be replicated by the dealer for sure.

Had that problem on my V4 since day 1. It locked me out up at the top of 2nd gear too.
dealer “reset” DQS at first service but the issue persisted. Just had it in at 1,900 miles and they “reset & calibrate” DQS again but now it’s been 300 miles FLAWLESS like it’s supposed to be. If the problem appears again, I’ll upgrade to an HM Quickshifter. I have an HM for my 1299 up north. I’ll be installing that next week and hopefully if corrects the same exact intermittent problem that I’ve been having on my 1299. I admit I overuse & abuse DQS, and this is a known issue with Panigales

you should try flipping to reverse or “GP” shift, so you’re stomping down to upshift. You’ll wish you did sooner

Thanks for the advise. I definitely need to bring it into the dealer for that reset and calibrate.

Same here, ive had it happen a few times on my 1299 and im sure I wasnt shifting with authority on all occasions. If it goes into a false neutral I pull the clutch in straight away and match the engine/gearbox speed whilst finding a suitable gear to prevent too much of a horrible clunking sound as it re-engages. If you try to find a gear with the clutch out during a false neutral, especially when cornering, when it does re-engage the rear will most probably step out/skid/slide
