DQS not working on downshifts

Have you guys noticed temperature sensitivity? Mine seems to work reasonably well when cold but then increasingly poor with heat. My bike is a 19 base, track only, and has problems with qs in both directions using oem, then Translogic, and now Cordona qs.

Not especially on my 2021, but it came from the factory wrapped in heat insulation. There was a recall somewhere along the line and now they come insulated.

In then same situation , track only and even at the first lap as long as i reach a certain speed it doesnt work. Tried oem translogic it doesnt seem to be the issue

Yeah, I’m dumbfounded - my ‘07 gsxr 750 track bike running Bazzaz ZiFi/qs shifts flawlessly, ten years after the original build.

Totally just spit balling...

The DQS wiring is +5V, Signal and ground. +5V comes from pin 18 on the ECU and also serves the gear position indicator and side stand switch. Ground comes from pin 33. The signal is pin 99. Its such a simple circuit and I'm doubting its an electrical (wiring) issue but perhaps another sensor telling the ECU not to blip the throttle when the downshift signal is received.

Good thought.

I’ve considered trying one of the standalone units like HM or IRC to see if it’s better.

I have a Euro 5 to OBD-II connector on the way. Hopefully I can see what else is going on with the engine when its running with my code reader. If the throttle isn't completely closed that would prevent the downshift.

I still think the QS is getting too hot. Last time at Laguna I could smell plastic burning smell from bike after 20 min session. Not oil or tires. Even saw traces of smoke billowing from bike. Ambient was around 75F outside, not hot at all.

Your on the right track. This gave me fits when I installed the Cordona. I got a error and the bike actually wouldn’t fire. I put the TL back on, no issues. I suspected the Cordona. I got another one. Same issue. Long story short as you said there are a few different components on that 5v circuit. If one of them isn’t happy, no one is happy. My issue turned out to be the tolerance in my kick stand delete plug was off and that threw a fit in the 5v circuit. I replaced it and the Cordona has been solid since.

Do you have a throttle spacer? Have you done a TPS reset?

No throttle spacers and it has the OEM throttle tube. I think the dealer reset the TPS and all of the adaptive stuff when I brought it to them.

What year is your bike? Does your QS have the heat insulation and the air duct for the gear position sensor?

2021, yes has the insulated wrap on the QS. I could smell something burning at Laguna. Then QS started to work sporadically on downshift. Had to grab the clutch at last minute and grab a gear or two down. Works and stops in the same 20 min session. No idea why it works or not. No error lights. Easier just to clutch it on downshifts. Funny cause last track day had to grab and dump clutch and rear slid pretty good. Must have looked good from behind. Not intentional of course but had no choice.

Reluctant to take to dealer and leave for two weeks and have them say they can't find an issue. Not sure they would just replace the QS module if they couldn't duplicate the issue.

My dealer was able to duplicate it on a very short test ride. That being said, they haven't fixed it or found an exact problem.

I have the bike taken apart and haven't found anything out of the ordinary.

Once you've done it, its not as bad as it seems. Take lots of pictures.

I came across a killer price on the full Akra and bought myself Christmas gift. I was going to do fork springs, block-off plates and that kind of nonsense while I'm in there. But, now I'm waiting on gaskets since one of them was blown out from the factory.
