Greetings !

New to the forum, but not new to Duke ownership. I have just purchased ( well 1000 miles ago !! ) a 1199 = Awesome. And i keep reading across the various websites about peeps wanting slip ons / full systems everyone waiting for the AR the Akro etc etc which i find curious..!

IS the std system that bad, I think not....is the fuelling that bad.?, i think not..is it heavy, who knows when on the bike !..

SO can anyone explain other than " cos i can " why they want to change the std system...........at circa 1400 just for the slip ons it seems a foooking stupid amount of cash unless it utterly transforms the bike, which i question as the bike for me is awesome as it is.?

Imho the 1199 is simply mega !

Phil

Sounds much better without the flapper valve. . .. if you can't tell or don't want it - then its not worth it.

Really??? Hmmm ..not so sure about that...

The cats actually need a large amount of heat to work properly, and as such, they run very hot on purpose. Removal of the cats removes a very large amount of heat build up from the bottom of the bike. What I can't comment on, is how much of that cat heat conducts back up through the pipes to the area that would make a rider uncomfortable. But one could assume that a more free flowing exhaust allows more heat to escape.

So removal of the cats absolutely removes heat from the overall system... whether or not that has any effect on what the rider feels, I have no clue.

I rode my bike with and without cats...pre heat shield "upgrade".. what you say makes sense but from my point of view the bike was exactly the same heat wise... and no I ain't bitching lol.. Just saying that anyone who looks to go the Termi route for heat reduction is barking up the wrong tree..;)

but with the termins you have less heat, that's something the shorai can't provide ;)

Yea, right! We have never heard on this entire forum of any exhaust change, brand/wrap making a noticiable difference in heat. Not to mention that Ducati agrees much of it comes from the cylinders themselves.

Inconel....The universal panacea...

The dealer I bought the bike from had issued with the valve staying closed at the first service so they wired it open. It sounded great.

I just had the bike in at a different dealer to do the warranty replacement on the lower right fairing as I don't live by the dealer I bought it from. So after the they installed the exhaust piece and fairing, when I pick up the bike they were like "for some reason your exhaust valve was wired open, so we undid that for you." FFS.

something interesting on this. I disconnected my exhaust valve, and the bike definitely sounded better and felt better - but I did get intermittent really rough running. When I went back to the dealer they advised that if the cable snags the ECU goes into limp home mode. Not sure how true that is, but something to consider - sounds plausable. So they re-connected mine.

I've recently ordered the TuneBoy kit, so I am hoping that they can change the parameter to disable the flapper valve like with the Termi Up-Map, then I guess that issue goes away totally!
