Ducati makes limited V2 Corse (aka Bayliss tribute)

I'm not saying the bike does not have a sweet suspension set up. Take a deep breath and read my entire post.
What I'm saying is very few people will track that bike. So a manual suspension where YOU are tweeking it. Shows little value to the public/average buyer. I do understand doing the TWIN in honor of Bayliss. I think the paint is awesome! My point was throw an electronic suspension on it to attract more street riders, aka possible V4s riders/buyers. The price to me does not make it appealing with a manual set up. And last time i checked this is a discussion board.
It's a beautiful bike. To me it could have been better.
The "Numbered" bikes are a joke! If they get 5000 orders. What good is say 2851 out of 5000?

TBH I'd feel a bit silly riding around on a street bike with a number on it...at least without a full race suit on :)

I think the bike is badda$$ looking and would rock one myself and deff have her on the track once in a while as i do with my FE (I guess the FE is also a POS parts bin bike too :) )

Man, if your 1299FE is a POS parts bin bike along with the POS V4 SP parts bin bike along with the V4 Foggy 916 POS parts bin bike I'm going to be in good company with my future POS V2 Bayliss parts bin bike! I'm so excited. We should call our group the "PBBBC" (Parts Bin Beanies Bike Club) Ducabike clear clutch cover is mandatory to join.

That’s funny!!

I think some of you guys take things a bit too personally. The brand is actually the entity who came up the "parts bin bike" not anyone on this board. That was a running joke at the Milan show way before it hit this place. The fact that Ducati has gone the way of the other large conglomerates with their "no one gets left behind" philosophy is what it is. The 1299FE is not a parts bin bike, it was touted as a final version of the discontinued V2 platform, which now, its not and the Foggy bike is a current platform with some decorations. The new V2 is an entry level bike for what was a premium brand and its on the same platform with less value than a bike that came out 9 years ago. Nuff said.

Finally it's released! I've been waiting and waiting for a special edition to come out right from the original V2 release.Looks gorgeous. Not going to be able to sleep tonight!Going to have to sell my current panigale to help fund it.

Where are you located and what panigale do you have? I'm in the market for one.

Been there done that and with a much nicer bike. I guess Ducati forgot about that one. The original was a top spec R. Now this. What a ....... insult. They went from a top shelf R flagship bike to this entry level Bologna ......... Just stop already.

I have a friend with a 2009 "real" Bayliss 1098R, they were fitted with an 1198 engine and as Endo mentions, it's a factory blingfest. You could say they were the SL of the day, yes they were that special.

Roll forward to 2021; Free with every V2, the Bayliss dinner set, Bayliss Blu Blockers, Bayliss Steak Knives, but wait but that's not all!!!

@endodoc and @Paul G forget to mention that the 1098R Bayliss Rep cost $44k in 2009 money. In 2021 that would be $57k. So you could get 2 V2 Bayliss reps for a 1098R and have money leftover for a years worth of trackdays

I rest my case
Exactly. Big business in “knock offs”. This bike unfortunately solidifies the direction of the brand. The 1299SL was the pinnacle of Ducati’s “brand”. All the special pieces were made for that bike right down to a limited specific SL motor. The V4SL started the downward departure (borrowed wheels, forks, brake bits, and a shared, stock V4R motor for more money. The SP sunk further into the parts bin and gimmick bucket.

You have already solidified the fact that no matter what price tag you stick on a bike, that people will buy all of them. Then ....... stick to building top shelf bikes and be done with this entry level, no better than Chinese junk.

The new Bayliss bike is an insult to the original, an insult to the guys who bought the first “LIMITED” Troy Bayliss bike and an insult to the man himself “thanks for taking me from your flagship to this Motorcycle Mart Special”. WTF introduces two limited bikes for the same guy? Ducati has lost their GD mind.

yes expensive and competing in MOTOGP don't coincide, saving a few grand is always in the best interest to winning world titles. Hands down the suspension under the bikes is far superior to anything you will ever see in a electronically controlled set up. Thus anything electric is inferior to what is offered on the market for traditional suspension... especially when talking about retail bikes.
Ducati themselves stated a few yeas ago that they would like to explore the active suspension route in MotoGP, as done correctly, it would improve the bike tremendously. But the budget wasn’t there for it (too expensive). Please keep in mind that all teams who currently have ride height and anti-squatting devices are using electronic suspension control. Unless banned by MotoGP, like F1 and WSBK, full active electronic suspensions will make it’s way into MotoGP.

I do agree that currently, any electric suspension on retail bikes will be ultimately inferior to the traditional manually adjustable suspensions. But I also believe that once full active electronic suspensions are developed by Ducati in MotoGP, it will be a game changer and everyone will have to adopt the tech.

They should have just continued to build the 1299 if they were serious about offering a twin in the lineup. The current V2 platform is like buying a 2 series BMW.

And the 2-series is the only BMW worth having. The rest are just high powered 4000+ pound grocery getters.
