Nice! I got mine too, will be going on the bike soon........

And now for what you've spent on an 899 you could have an ABS 1199.
I'm not bashing the 899, I just don't see how anybody could rationalize with the costs being virtually the same. (One the dealer knocks $$ of 1199 MSRP)

You have a point.... the selling prices are very close...

They are different bikes with a different focus, reasons for purchase, etc. It's a common misconception to assume that someone who buys an 899 really wants an 1199 if they could get one for a similar price, but it's not true. We've been selling 1199's for two years now, and now that the 899 is out there is a substantially different group of people coming in to buy them. These are generally not riders who seriously considered buying an 1199 the past two years, but once they saw the 899 come out they are all over it. It was the same with the 848 when it came out after the 1098 had been out for a year, a whole new group of people came in to buy them.

Is the same my idea!!!!!

This may well be true....But I think this bike will always be regarded as a "Baby Panigale".. and that its buyers are 1199 wannabees... sorry...

I'm not so sure about that in a lot of ways the 1199 has far too much power for the road and on track the amount of time you spend with a wide open throttle is minimum whereas the 899 will be much more exploitable.

Also the prices are so similar that most people would have no issue throwing down a couple of extra $$$ for a 1199.

I am afraid I must disagree. The fact that the 2 prices are so close, the buyers probably aren't wanabees. We should probably start a thread on the why. I heard it is an easier bike to ride hard, as it is a bit tamer. And some people just don't want a liter plus bike. Never met any ( :) ) but they are out there.

If its resale doesn't hold as well as the 1199, then I could see people buying it for price.

PS I noticed the MWR wasn't in the kit :D

Well I agree with the pricing point...but I do think buyers of the 899 will not even look at the 1199 as they will make assumptions about it... Its more expensive to buy/run/insure etc...

Why it would be present MWR? I will never fit a sponge air filter into any my bike! this is used by all Ducati official SBK teams and also in MotoGP

Dont worry, they wise up with a a little time under their belt. ;)

You have a point.... the selling prices are very close...

At MSRP:

899 = $15k
1199 = $19k

That's not close. There's a (almost) 25% spread there.

You know what is close? In '97 a 748 was $15k and a 916 was $17k. I bought the 748. Not because it was cheaper. But because it had a different setup. A closer ratio tranny being the primary reason (748 used a close-ratio 888).

There are reasons someone would choose an 899 over an 1199 that have nothing to do with price. If I was shopping today, even after a year on my 1199, I would give serious consideration to the 899.

I think that people who sneer at 899s as just a "baby-Pani-wannabe" are missing the point of smaller bikes. I have my 1199 but I'm eagerly waiting for 2015 'cause I'd love to have one of these. Two different bikes. Two different ways to have fun.

Charlie..

I think you are forgetting to factor in deals that are available on the 1199 and not on the 899...

With regards to "sneering".. I think my issue is that we can set the 1199 to 120hp... so why go 899 at all?? Its heavier also.. dash is ugly (imo)..
