Ducati v4s exhaust options. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?

You only live once. Gotta pay to play. These cost discussions are silly at best. Obviously Ducati/Akrapovic/Insert exhaust brand ____, doesn't care much about cost. There will always be buyers, regardless of price. Some people here look for the unobtainium corse parts and pay the price for it. Do they need it? Probably not. Same thing with these overpriced exhausts, wheels, fgr ohlins forks, etc. Lot of it is just bling. Some do it for bragging rights. The ones with disposable income don't care about cost. Some well off folks can't justify the cost of some metal pipes which is more than understandable and the rest find ways to save up for it and justify it however the hell they can. In the end, as long as it doesn't interfere with you or your family's well being and if it's gonna give you a hard on, .... it. Buy whatever the hell you want. $1000 or $7000. If you want cheap aftermarket options, maybe a Japanese bike is better suited for your budget. Even those have gone up in price A LOT. I remember havin a full exhaust options for under 1k and now some of those are almost 2500 on Japanese bikes. Paying $50k for a sportbike is insane for some. Others are able to justify it. Disposable income or not.

I agree, I just hope that there arent so many guys out there willing to pay it that Akra and the like make it a normal thing. Hell, the Akra exhaust I have on my corvette (which sounds sweeeeeet) was 4k for far more material (titanium and carbon) Less bends maybe is the ticket?

Way more Corvettes (any year) than Ducatis in the world, and always will be. I never considered an Akra for my C6 or C7. Funny how different toys and accessories are priced.

Sorry, I should pause before replying. I agree that if the XYZ exhaust price becomes normal, it just means the next one will be more expensive. I think maybe the V4R exhaust is taking advantage of that? That said if it's the only exhaust that preserves the factory warrany, that is important to some of us.

Keeping it real....the V4R uses the same exhausts as the V4 and V4S, same price. This pricing is hardly new, go price the 1299 full Ti exhaust through Ducati, $100 diff. Yes, its really expensive but if your buying a Ducati, esp a V4R, then it shouldn't be news. You are buying more than an exhaust, you are getting the exclusive upmap that they have locked down. It all comes with the territory of having more exotic bikes, its the market at this price level.

its the market at this price level.

it's only the Ducati market, every other brand is cheaper.

i've done the akra/termi set up on a number of bikes i just think the price is getting a bit silly it's not like you are getting anything special, but each to their own.

Anyone can buy whatever they want

But yes, it is dificult for a manufacturer to justify a 5,000 exhaust

Same thing happens with 10 and 30k watches

But hey, if people buying

I declare myself guilty of the watch issue

I'm case of exhaust I went with the 1,500 option

Of all the luxury motorcycle marques, Ducati is the most expensive brand with the most expensive accessories. Not unlike, Louis Vuitton or Burberry, the high entry cost and cost of the desirable trinkets is how you keep your brand exclusive and make your clients feel special.

Well you are getting something special, the DP upmap which also modify's the DTC and DWC. That said, there is a reason ducati has a graduated line-up and everyones finances are different. If I were looking to spend V4 base model money, I would prob get the '19 s1000rr, but I try not to judge anyone else's emotional purchase because all these bikes and parts are just that. These are wants, not needs:)

How is this exhaust? I always hear a lot of hate thrown toward AR. How loud? I want the Ducati sound without blowing up my ears :D

Louder than stock of course, however I use a shark race-r pro lid and because the tight neck roll/curtain seal, this helmet is profoundly quieter than most high flow vent helmets so I can't say about earlplug needs, sorry.I'm sure on long rides earplugs would be wise without the db killer, that's the case for the majority of aftermarket exhausts I think.

Yep, have to agree with that. It's definitely a want vs. need. The point someone mentioned previously about Ducati maintaining themselves as a higher end brand is completely accurate and if you look at it from that perspective it makes much more sense.

I inquired about aftermarket exhausts when I rolled my V4 off the stealership. The owner told me that if I went with any exhaust other than an Akrapovic, that I would void my warranty. I like how the SC sounds it is also half price of what the Akra slip on costs.

I am happy with how the bike sounds stock, but I wouldn't mind having a louder tone. I am already getting used to the stock sound.

What do you guys think about this?

Its a lie.

An aftermarket exhaust will NOT void your warranty. This is one of the biggest lies a dealer will tell you. Nothing but a scare tactic. Now if you tune your bike and you throw a rod, then that will definitely void your warranty. To void your warranty, the dealer would have to prove that whatever problem you have with your bike is caused by whatever aftermarket item they're saying that voids your warranty. They tried to pull that nonsense with my akrapovic evo system back in 2014 when i had a burned lower fairing. I showed photos of my bike when it had the stock cans on it with the burned lower fairing long before i installed my akrapovic system and they ended up replacing it.

For the record, I ran my evo system without a tune or upmap for a while without issues. Maybe a year later, i installed the full termi upmap. Was it necessary to install the upmap? Nope. Did it just because. Still no issues. Afterall, I only care about the sound of the exhaust anyway. The extra power/performance and less weight than stock doesn't matter to me.

keep in mind though, that with a fully open pipe and an already lean map (in some areas), you will create an even leaner condition --> hotter combustion, possibly compromising performance and longevity

Did you feel anything different with the termi UpMap?

Performance or smoother or anything at all?

Nope. I'm running a 15/42 gearing on my 1199. I think that helped and made things more noticeable than the upmap. I'm sure the upmap helped but my butt dyno can't tell the difference.

I felt more less the same thing

But have only riden it once in the street with the UpMap and slipon

Will have a trackday this weekend, will report how it feels on the track

And yet they continued as if you'd said naught
No concern for the health of the 'cati they'd bought
No fear of the fire that burned hot and lean
Deep in the bowels of their flying machine

The beast sounded louder, they lent it an ear
They beckoned the crowds ever closer to hear
The rhapsody mesmerized all within reach
A powerful lesson to all it would teach

The magma within grew beyond all control
Individual cylinders started to glow
The pilots still fixated only with sound
Didn't notice the chariots burn to the ground

What manner of lesson can all of us learn
Of Ducatis mistreated and afterwards burned
That sound over health you never should tolerate
And listen to those of said forums that moderate

Though you work hard for your money tree leaves
A fool nearly often does justly receive
The judgement that lands upon those that don't listen
Their bike burns to ash where before it did glisten
