Ummm can I suggest that you wet the tip of your little finger and use that to wet your ear rather than wet the plug directly as they deteriorate quicker that way (and the taste is gross).

(Notice to mods: This post was re-written several times to avoid any unnecessary innuendo relating to greasing the hole, moistening things and general wet & hole puns)

Another question for those of you using Surefires. Do you ride with the insert plug in or out?

The only aural challenge I have yet to overcome is my winter setup. In my winter helmet I installed the Sena in-helmet speakers. I tried my buds (Westone), but it is just too much of a Charles Q. Foxtrot getting them on and then putting my balaclava over them and then my helmet, etc. It's just too much gear for me to deal with. With the Surefires in (center plug out) and the balaclava on even with the iPhone volume and Sena volume at max I can barely hear my music. I can't hear Siri prompts at all on the highway so I have learned to time it so I can get her to play what I want. I haven't tried a phone call yet, but I bet a bit of shouting will be involved by the other party.

Surefire showed up, I love them. I can still feel some pressure from helmet, but the are pretty low profile so I think that is as good as it gets.

By the way, I have Scala G4 and can hear even with solid plugs.

I wonder if the balaclava coupled with the plugs is just too much for the volume to get through? I'll try on the ride home today with no balaclava and the Surefires and see how it goes.

I use Howard Leight MAX plugs. NRR33. Inexpensive and fit great. Although they are supposed to be single use, I generally get about 3 days of riding on a set before I toss them and start on a new set.

Howard Leight | MAX Earplugs

+1 on these.

Been using them for years. I also tend to multi-use them even though they're cheap.
I buy them by the box gross (they're individeually packaged in pairs) and usually keep 4-5 pair on me for backup or for friends.

Which earplug is better to use while motorcycle riding? I need a hearing protection from unwanted noise. But I need good NRR devices.

I use same as the MotoGp guy’s
Foam conical and lick them, when communication is required I use noise cancelling Bose ear buds. Very expensive but top shelf product.

Without wearing earplugs we won't protect our hearing. So Its very essential to use custom earplugs to protect our hearing.
