Earplugs

I ordered a set of the Eargasm plugs. Tried them yesterday at COTA. They’re much easier to insert than the foam plugs, and much more comfortable as well - comfortable enough for hours of wear. They also ship as a set of two pairs in different sizes which enables you to tailor the fit a little.

I have never used any earplugs but I hear very positive feedback. Now I am ready to test these too. But as somebody already mentioned here, I am not ready to spend a fortune on this accessory. I am from worldcams.tv/united-kingdom/weymouth/seafront. Need to look around at what is available in the stores around. Or please suggest me a budget variant in the online store.

I’m speaking here as someone who ‘s hearing is ......: wear ear plugs.
It isn’t the exhaust noise it is the wind noise that will do it. 5 mins at 100mph will do it.
My hearing is screwed from 30yrs in a heavy metal band…but it isn’t fun not being able to hear conversations when there is any background noise.
Wear ear plugs on the bike.

Talk about overcomplicating an ultra basic item....

Hearing protection is a standard item in multiple industries, it doesnt need to be specially moulded bespoke motorcycle specific with a ducati logo. You will struggle to go past 3M foamys for 99% of riding. Also, everyone should wear ear protection if they care about their hearing.

I finally found some EARsoft FX 39db foam versions here and wow - big difference. (I Think they're 3M made, branded OXFORD in the EU / UK) Very noticeable improvement from the 33db I've used for years.
It's crazy how what frequencies they block is so different. I heard loud wind at high speeds before. Now I realized, the loudest sound is specifically my chin vents at certain angles and it's quite a bit quieter with the new 39db.
When I get my chin below the windscreen, I'd say about 45% of the wind noise is gone.
I just thought it was just the whole helmet before. What a difference. I hear the engine just fine. Maybe better without so much wind noise.

when I started riding protection was virtually non-existent, poor quality clothing, crappy boots, heavy useless helmets- hearing protection wasnt even on the list! I am very glad riders today have the awareness and education to use them. Riders who dont are either misinformed or ignorant but there is no excuse to not use some kind of hearing protection.

Absolutely. When I got my first street bike in 1988 (FZR400), the only protective gear considered was a helmet.

Foam plugs provide the best noise attenuation, but they can become uncomfortable on long rides. They are also a hassle to put in properly with the rolling and compression required of the foam for best performance. This is particularly true on group rides with many stops. In and out with the plug is a literal pain.

I use foam plugs on the track. New set for each session.

You can actually develop tinnitus from foam earplugs if they keep pushing earwax into the ear canal and cause buildup, and they put pressure on ear bones which is also a possible tinnitus risk.

I started using Bose active noise reduction earbuds. They are amazing, but not perfect.

Pros:
Very comfortable
Do not get inserted in ear canal
Provide sound attenuation almost as good as foam plugs.
Terrific when used with helmet communication such as sena or cardo.

Cons:
Cable management
Depending on helmet and windscreen, you can get a popping sound from windflow disturbances

Worth trying them as they are available for 30 day no risk return guaruntee.

I had a pair of those Bose for a while - I can’t see them staying in when you out in a helmet.

Yesterday I tried out some of the Howard Leight/Honeywell Max 33 earplugs. I get a much better fit and seal compared to the Laser Lite ones I was using. I think the difference is the large flared end of the Max earplugs. The Laser Lite ones have a different shape at the base and would sometimes not get seated right or come unseated when I put a helmet on.

I'll save the Laser Lite ones for yard work.

I tried the custom earplug route. I went to a local audiologist got fitted and went through three remakes trying to get them right. They fit ok until I get a helmet on, and without the DB killers in the full Akra exhaust were too loud, especially noticeable on long left hand corners.
