Hi all,

This is my first post. I was heading to the dealership to get a replacement key made for my 2014 panigale 899 when I noticed the check engine, abs light and the triangle with the exclaimation light come on while riding. The dtc and abs settings were blinking with a dash with a dash as the ebc setting. When checking the settings there is a new item called "ERR" and when you go in it says "Speed". When I got to the dealer, the Ducati tech had left early and won't be able to see the bike until Tuesday. It is a shame as I have a track day on Monday at Miller motor sports park (I went yesterday as well). I feel like there is something up with the speed sensor so none of the electronic rider aids are working.

Bike has 5200 miles and had the oil changed, and coolant flushed with distillers water and water wetter at 5000 miles. I bought it from a private party about 3 weeks ago with 4030 miles. I was cruising on the interstate and I did not do a wheelie.

Any help is much appreciated. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any clarification.

So when I got home, I took a more in depth inspection of the speed sensors. Looks like when the dealership put on new tires, the wire for the speed sensor came off one of the clips and was rubbing against the tire. That caused it to wear through the plastic all the way to the wire. No way I can get it replaced before track day so I will probably make it neat and electrical tape it for the track and get it replaced on Tuesday. At worst, I will just have to ride with no electrical aids.

Good that you've found it. Check your fuses also, a fella has had similar issues recently and had a blown fuse.

funny how that can happen. my wife's Monster suddenly developed this weird issue of the headlights cutting in and out, after I had installed HIDs. I thought the electrical system wasn't able to handle the dual 55W (HIDs draw less current once started up however). Turns out that when I put everything together, the clutch cable started wearing against one of the four wires that control the headlights, and had rubbed through, just as you described happened to you. I've gotten a replacement connector and will be doing some soldering with new wires, but it's 100% right now due to electrical tape and a glob of silicone over everything for good measure....as well as routing the clutch cable correctly!!
