More than likely, Just with Craig at Pandoras and he will get you on the 1299 base they have on their floor and if you give me a heads up I'll have my S there so you can see the difference.

did you have to order the 's' model? the more I research the more I wonder if I will regret not upgrading (I am 6' 265lbs power lifter so I a bit larger than the average sports bike rider.)

I know the last track bike I prepped was with KWS Motorsports and I got a Ohlins front cartridge to replace the guts of the stock Showa with a beefed up spring to have the proper sag.

You plan on going Friday or sat? like I said I on one of 60 days off rotation so, as long I don't have any objections from the wife, I'll be rolling out that way.

Im 6'1" 235 lbs (fat ... not power lifter lol) and track my S and not had any issues with the suspension. They had to bring the S in for me but if im going to buy something I normally spend a little more money to get the best. I plan on being out there Saturday not sure what time though. just let me know and we'll meet up. and if you cant make it this weekend its no big deal cause pandoras has the bike not the demo day truck.

I think there was another thread about base vs S somewhere. Normally I'd get the highest model but there is a case for getting better stuff than what the factory offers if you want the very best out of it; in that case you get the base and mod away. If you're not real serious about mods and prefer the best that the factory can give you, get the S. Those are good suspension pieces, electronic so it's easily adjustable. Regardless of whatever you pick, get the sag set. With your size, it might be more difficult with the stock spring which means a new spring but the bigger guys here might want to chime in.

Yes you can always pick up nice suspension pieces later on for the base model. No electric adjustability but doesn't matter sometimes to most of us.

Comes onto a Ducati forum and asks "should I buy Ducati or Aprillia?"

Posted the exact same question two days ago with the rsv4 forum.. the difference... 5 pages of responses here with valid and meaningful responses.. Aprilia forum.. not only do they censor the response for new members, I only have 2 reply's one is of a dudes RSV4 RR (a giant picture) and the other is someone complimenting how BA the picture is...:rolleyes:

If you're afraid to hear what people have to say about a product/brad... that doesn't exactly give me a warm and fuzzy about what they have to offer..

But I will due my due dilligence, I want to give both bikes a ride before I offically pull the trigger. Everyone else here might be balling out of control (buyiung SL's as their toys with gt3's in their garages etc...) but, us mear mortals can only afford one stallion in the stable at a time so I simply making sure I choose the right one ;).

Hey man, you said all opinions welcome, you should know full well that the majority here is going to tell you straight up Ducati.

Personally, just on weight, Ducati....... on sound, presence, looks and feel good factor, Ducati

;)

Well, I'm on both sites so consider my opinion for that forum as well. As others may have said, which ever forum you post, the people there are biased to that bike.

Yep, yep, yep, and yep. Well, we should be encouraging him to come over to our side; the more members we have, the better for all of us Ducheads. :)

jpiwko, you can only have one so you want to make the best decision but remember the grass is greener syndrome.....no matter which choice you made, you should have gotten the other one. You're looking at two of the best sportbikes out there so you can't go wrong. I'd like to pick up an RSV4 but the dealer/mfr support is a little weak for me.

I got good responses from the April forum (a couple of people own Pani's as well) and after having a close look at a couple of Factory models I decided on the 1199.

Technically I think the Ducati is a good thing and at all angles it's a thing of beauty, admittedly I have reasonably top shelf Ohlins, exhaust, Rapid Bike etc. to move across to it but as good as the Factory is it just couldn't get across the line for me personally.

I rode my 899 to take a look at a very low mileage Factory and parked right beside it, no match on the looks scale for me. Rode well heaps of power (stepping off the 899) Akra slip on with the ecu and plenty of carbon, I liked it but can only have one superbike, an adventure bike and a trail bike and as I rode the little Pani home I realised the Ducati was a nice choice for me.

Well I know either way I won't be settling for a cookie cutter inline bike or worse yet... a Harley lol. I have ridden more than I care to admit of HD's in Hawaii. Buddy's always trying to say how much their v-rod is this or their breakout is that. I got a new screaming eagle bla bla bla..

Ducati has a huge fan base and is the iconic ... symbol on two wheels. Aprilia I think is pretty good looking also (again I have yet to see one in person.. all this is based off of youtube/google lol).

I saw a 959, I owned an '07 1098 from South Seas, Hi... So Sat I am going to go and hit up the Ducati dealer in Chatanooga for a 1299 test ride. Then the following weekend hit Aprilia in TN for a test ride. and then I'll know 100%, but right now I am at a 65 - 35 (Ducati over Aprilia)... It seems both have had a few mechanical quirks but, Ducati stands behind their product where Aprilia dealer support seems non-existent. Yes I can wrench on a bike (I put a stroker kit in a 08' GSX-R 1k w/ 2 pc3usb and a custom tuning for both sets of injectors)... But, Why do I want to spend time wrenching on a $20k+ bike when it should be under warranty. (well with in reason)

I think your picking between the best two, enjoy your rides.

This is easy. Listen to me. You mentioned the Duc base vs the S. A huge difference between the two is WHEELS. The S's forged wheels are reason alone to get the S.

There is no better upgrade to ANY motorcycle than lightweight wheels. They accelerate easier, stop quicker, change direction faster and ride smoother. Get the "S".

I had the same decision when I bought the Pani however, my choice was made easier by the dealer being in the process of dropping Aprilia due to poor support. For the number of goodies you get goiing from the base to the S, buying the S was a no-brainer.

As for your earlier question about long distance on the Duc, I have regularly done 5+ hours in the saddle and find it comparable to any other superbike, ie...more comfortable than a cruiser, since you can move around, but still something that takes getting used too.

Hey man, got my dates messed up. The ducati demo day is next weekend in Chattanooga but no big deal if you come tomorrow. They will have the 1299 for you there to demo.
