I had two days this past weekend at Buttonwillow (both directions) and I am so impressed by this bike. I'm coming off of a 2011 1198sp dedicated track bike. For the longest time I did not want to admit to myself that the 1199 was a better bike - especially after everything I invested into the 1198.

I was at my normal pace in the first session. In sport mode. Without adjusting suspension or engine management (195low). The 1199 is such an easy bike to ride - It goes where I want it to almost effortlessly. Moved to race mode in the PM and ran that "as is" for the remainder of the day - faster still.

The next morning I had my suspension dialed in with Dave Moss and that made a HUGE difference. Confidence all over the track and I know there is so much more on tap. Really looking forward to the next few track days.

jyli- will do shortly. Bike is now back at dealer for (H) leaky valve cover gasket which finally failed.

Dave Moss is a magician. I thought the bike felt balanced. He felt otherwise. He was right.

Thanks for your thoughts and experience. Photos!!!?

I will have to look up Dave Moss. I will be new to California.

Cmepasu, agreed! They are wonderful track animals! After a few track sessions, you ought to try race mode. Motor will work even better. Yeah, I'm going to get Moss to refine my new 15R next time I get to California (probably in the fall) for a Keigwin event.

Lets See Some..............

,,,,,,,,,,,,,Pics, Pics, Pics!!

Sadly enough my friend, I also do admit the 1198s was a more fun bike to ride! :D

However, this one is more comfortable, not than these were built for comfort right?

And you hit the nail on the head - Race Mode is SWEEEEEEET !!!

I feel once you put similar amount to this as you did 1098 you'll have more fun to this one. Also one you start dragging elbows through the turn like i did. Wouldnt even have dreamed of doing that on my 848 that i had before.

Here's one that my buddy shot from off the track. Love this thing.

I had a blast on the 1198sp but it was just a lot of work to get around the track - felt like it was fighting me even with all the suspension upgrades, etc.

More comfort = more speed. If you're thinking about anything on the bike, its in your head and fighting you. I'm going to miss the 1198 but I'll be okay. Loved that bike on the street - absolute raw power, very little rider aid, the looks, the sound, etc etc. The list goes on. A true Italian,

Highly recommend Mr. Moss if you have the chance to work with him in a track environment or a suspension day at the local shop. $40 well spent.

I have another Buttonwillow day scheduled on June 20. Cannot wait! Might spoon on some Pirelli slicks to see what kind of difference that makes - 200/60 profile might be added fun.

Hey fellow 1199. Nice gloves! lol I was in the same boat with my 1098 but the moment I rode the 1199, the 1098 felt prehistoric. :D

I've converted mine to full track bike and awaiting paint. Def go 200/60 Pirelli, it'll transform the bike for good!

I used to live in the Bay Area but moved back down to SoCal (SD). I'm planning to hit up the SoCal tracks with my buddies again. Let me know when you're planning on going back to the track.

Prehistoric. That about sums it up perfectly - just out-dated.

Looking good!!!

Need to get on some track bodywork in addition to the 200/60. Think thats going to be a must.

Most def! Next day will most likely be June 20 at Buttonwillow - CCW. Usually roll out with MotoClub and get a garage.

Thats going to be a hike from SD though!

Laguna Seca soon too. Cant wait to get back up there.

:D Ah man, I miss Laguna and T Hill. I used to live an hour away from T Hill.

Nice, which config do you like better at BW? I rode both configs during a weekend and I wasn't really a fan of CCW. It's about 3.5 hrs from SD. I've gotten used to driving to and from NorCal to SoCal so it's not that bad.

Dude CCW for the win - flows so much better! It does take some getting used to, but once you do - game on.

3.5 isn't too bad. Thought it would be longer given the distance. Let me know next time your up for a track day!

Are they armour bodies fairings?? I just bought a set and was wondering how they fitted up??

Right on! I want to try BW CCW again. The last time I rode BW CW and then followed by CCW was over 10 yrs ago on my 05 ZX6RR. I wasn't a fan of left handed tracks until I lived in the Bay and rode T Hill and Laguna. That's when I got accustomed to left hand tracks.

I just rode CVR CCW for the second time a couple weeks ago and I actually liked it. Still doesn't beat T Hill! Besides Laguna, T Hill is the best track in CA, hands down!

It's Sharkskinz and the best bodywork you can buy. The finish is near perfect for paint if you ask any bodyshop. The fitment is spot on like OEM fairings with most holes being predrilled and it has the SL wide upper.

Armour are good too but I saw some details that I didn't like in comparison to Sharkskinz. Case in point, the tail piece. SS has the open vents like the OEM tail and Armour has them closed off. However, I did like how Armour has the 1 piece upper/lower for the stock exhaust.

TJ from Riders Discount has the best deal for them too.

Game on for sharkskinz. Ran on my 1198 and works awesome. Looking forward to doing some paint too this time, thats going to be fun.

Never run T-hill, but your comments echo most of what I hear so I think I'll need to put this on the list! Game on.

I did CVR after a day at Laguna and was struck at how much more challenging CVR was. Laguna feels like it was designed to go fast - lots of good positive camber, easy to see through everything. I felt immediately at home on that track. Conversely, CVR feels flat and you need to def have you lines nailed down so you don't get lost in a few of the corners. Maybe thats just me. Its still riding motorcycles and still a freggin blast. I love this stuff!

Cheers -

Not bashing CVR but it's kind of a bland track and small like Streets. I like tracks with character, technical turns, long straights, sweepers and especially elevation changes. Like this! lol

I was wondering the same... Im fine getting some air on a 40b downhill man bike but not so much on a 400lb motorcycle. EF that madness.
