@0260n25 not surprised you are using all the preload but using all the compression would leave you have a harsh experience over bumps. Balance the front and rear.

I am surprised that many riders report using less than 1/2 preload and 1/2 comp. They must be lightweight and use very little braking. :oops:

For me, without all the compression the front bottoms out easily. With 100% comp, the front only bottoms with very hard braking, which at least gives me a safe margin for now. I'll have to move to stiffer springs to get the preload and comp in check. I'll see what Racetech recommends for springs.

Thanks,680

Well, Racetech had no info on the V2 or 959, so my phone call to them was of no help. I'll need to rely on others who know what the V2 forks have and what I should order to go up in spring rate. :confused:

Does anyone have suggestions on what company may have experience with V2 springs? Surely, the forks are the same as tons of others on the market and are easy to fit for springs. Maybe Racetech didn't have the right people in the office today and didn't care to make a sale.

+1 on calling Ducati Omaha. I called Racetech for info on the forks of my 15 base Multistrada. They told me they were Sachs forks, which is not true. They are KYB.

Thanks for the expert availability to help.
I am riding a 1299S with 90N/mm rear spring, my weight with gear is 195lbs. Using Metzeler CompK slicks with 28F/26R with tire warmers;
Front set up is ok, however the bike wallows during hard accels. Is the shock topping?
bike sag is 10mm, rider sag 25mm, almost no preload in the shock because with standard 12mm bike sag was 0;

Thanks @roadracerx for this thread. Tons of info in here... Just got back into track riding after a 7yr break. 2016 959. I'm about 180 without gear. i initially was using Dave moss settings posted by a 175lb guy, but I fiddled with them a little bc it felt too soft. No idea where I am now but the bike feels good to me... Rosso Corsa 2s seem to be wearing fast right where the compound changes. Pressures are 30f & 28r. This pic is after 2 days at nelson ledges. Can you give me any feedback from the tire pics?

I just got a Hypermotard 950 and I'm trying to get my suspension setup. I am 5'8" 215 with gear on and mainly ride the twisties in the mountains. Any advice?

@roadracerx what's your opinion on spring rates front and back for a V4 SP? I believe it has the same stock springs as the current V4 S, 10,5 N/mm front and 85 N/mm rear. My weight with no gear is ~105 kg / 230 lbs and height 188 cm / 6'2". Currently forks are bottoming out during hard braking and the rear gets a little squirmy out of corners and the rear tire is suffering from excessive wear.

I've been in contact with an öhlins certified mechanic and we've done some measuring, but would like to hear your thoughts and "guesstimate" before we make any changes.

I’ve come to the following conclusion,

When I lean to the bike over to turn, I feel like it’s tracking away from where I’d like to go. This has been all street riding so it’s nothing I can’t handle, but if I was at the track, I’m certain this would completely unnerve me and slow me down. It slows me down on the street.

What adjustment do I need to make. Raise rear/lower front. Drop forks in triple? Shorten my wheelbase?

Running Corsa II’s and I fear this is part of the problem. I also meant to get the 205 60, but I forget to tell the dealer that’s what I wanted, and a 55 went on. I didn’t have think it would have much of an impact. But I know the Corsa II’s have a lower diameter and the bike definitely turned slower after I put that tire on. So it’s been a battle since.

Running wide on exit which is what I presume you are talking about? I had the same issue and noticed an improvement running 60 profiles. I also lengthened the shock about 4 threads then the final adjustment was raising the forks in the clamps about 2mm. Its pretty much where I want it and tracks predictably on exit.

Thanks. I figured that was my issue. I’m learning. Not sure what to do about the 55 profile tire. I don’t have that many miles on it, but I guess I could change it out. I’m going to 1st raise the ride height. If that don’t work I’ll move the triples. If that don’t work I’ll buy a damn tire.

The tire should be fine to wear out, for the street I would try out a higher pressure 36-38 and see if that helps. Do one thing at a time so you know what makes the difference. To add I am running 15/41 so that changes the anti squat behaviour

Interesting that gearing can influence anti squat but it makes sense now that I think about it

Taz, is 230 lbs your weight without gear? Problem is I don't think they make a spring rate higher than 105 N/m for the shock but 105-110 is what I recommend with 11-13 mm or preload and for the fork 11.0 N/m springs BOTH sides, start with 7 mm (turns) of preload.

AmpForE, get the correct rear tire, the handling difference between 55 and 60 aspect ratio can be huge if not properly set up.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'm 230 lbs with no gear or anything else :) we went with a 105 spring in the rear and 12 N/mm in both fork legs. Hit 40 mm sag in the front with 2 turns of preload and 30 in the rear with preload set just about same as stock.

Bike feels nice and stable, a huge improvement over stock, but forks were still bottoming. I suspect oil level was a little too low so we will be adding in increments next season and see how it goes.
