Full Termi's melting fairing

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

As no-one post a pic of their solution i talked about this with my dealer and applied some bitum-glue to the original spacer.
When it's hardened we cut it at 9mm.
Hope that will do the trick.
If anyone got a partnumber of the replacement spacer please let me know as here in the Netherlands it's (still) unknown.

i'm going by the dealer again today so will ask if they have an actual part number for it and post it.

Man you guys have looooooooooooooong days !! :p
Go to my dealer tomorrow as they are working on it, wish i could give them some advice / information on this heat issue.
As i'm always very precious on my bikes i definitaly don't want to end with a melted fairing (even if it's replaced under warranty, better save than sorry)

My 999r did the same thing and it was never really resolved. I just take it up as its a race exhaust designed for racing, teams dont care if the body melts. So in the long run neither did I and stopped worring about it. It just burnt enough of the fairing to make a black mark and didnt go any further, and my bodywork was carbon.

Yep my 999s had the same issue with the 57 mm termi.
One of the reasons i went with 72 mm akrapovic on my 1098s, they managed to get their stuf right while the termis did again melt the bellypan.
Actualy cant believe Ducati still walks hand in hand with Termignoni while Akrapovic is far more superior.
But till Akrapovic releases their system we're stuck with the termi and i'm still looking for a (temporary) solution.

Well, as it turns out the dealer did NOT have a specific part number for the oft referred to GROMMET which the DNA rep allegedly referred to as the RIGHT SIDE EXHAUST BUMPER.

So, the DNA rep promised a part number or some sort of O'fficial reference tomorrow - Saturday here.

Will try again to post a part number or whatever DNA is calling it.

So I'm not having the same problems as you guys, as of yet. I did notice that my clear bra piece near the exhaust is starting to bubble up.

Great :)
I appreciate how much effort you put into this !

Hate to see the way Ducati communicates with their dealers, looks like they experimenting with things, give some dealers some grommits and wait for result, same with the swing-arm bolt and the updated fuelmap.

OK - but just so you know - my mech and I both think this part is a couple of mm too long at 11mm.

My mech fashioned one at 9mm whilst waiting for the O'fficial Ducati part to arrive. It worked just fine. DNA wanted pictures of the one the mech fashioned. I'll take some pics as well and will post them.

So, my lower right fairing is scored where the brake lever contacts it but it hasn't burst into flames yet so I guess standby to see what comes next.

On a similar note - the CF piece over the header loop from the rear cylinder is toast. The reflective material I applied has burned through and the CF on the forward left corner is brittle and burned. I pulled it off this weekend and am taking it to the shop sometime this week to see about a warranty replacement. I haven't yet tried to refit the OEM metal cover back on the bike but eventually will muck around with it to see if it will be useable at least until DNA sorts that out too. If you look at the pics I've already posted you can see what and where I'm describing.

Ok :)
We'll go the homebrew way first anyway (original grommit with applied bitum-glue to get some more height)
I already told my dealer 9mm was prefered, because of scratching the fairing, would look into this to make it max height without touching the brake-pedal.
Keep us updated ;) Again, much appreciated !

Just came back from my dealer where we did start the bike for the first time, headers installed, result -> ears bleeding :D
My dealer did a great job on the homebrew grommit, i think he cuted it at 10 mm.
There's a lot of room between the header and the fairing, think around 6 mm.
But the fairing still gets hot as hell, touched it while the bike was idling and almost burned my fingers.
Time will tell, but for now i'm more than satisfied :D
Gonna pick my bike up this friday, and will post some pics of the modified grommit.

COOL!

Yep, 6mm was the magic number for space between fairing and header as well. I'm still trying to get 6mm between the rear cylinder header loop and the CF guard.

I added the DEI Gold reflective material as well all along the inside of the lower right fairing and it, in this instance, has done a great job of reducing the heat on the fairing. I did one layer all over the fairing then doubled it up using the 2 inch tape around where the header is closest to the fairing and where some others have noted the fairing actually bubbling - about where the header ducks back inside near the rear of the fairing.

This stuff is holding up well in this application.

It's available via Amazon for less than directly from DEI.

Picked mine up from the dealer today and they replaced the lower fairing without fixing the grommet or creating a temp fix. I ask why and they said, "it's a Ducati problem. They can replace it again when it melts again". Hmmm whatever i suppose.
