Hey everyone,

I just picked up my 899 earlier this year in February. I bought the bike used with 7,500mi, and have put on almost 5,000mi since then. I'm from the SF Bay Area, so most of my added miles have come from "practicing" in our heavy traffic commute. :D

I added a few small goodies since: DP comfort seat, Termi slip-ons, Oberon and clutch slave. Only thing I'd like to get is an adjustable rearset, and a few more carbon fiber pieces. Most of my money has gone to safety gear--5 jackets now, 2 boots, 2 gloves, and 2 helmets!

I look forward to any other input, and meeting some new members here. I'll be taking the bike this weekend to Thunderhill Raceway for my 1st track event course under the California Superbike School!

Cheers!

Congats on the new bike, you're doing the right thing by going to the track. That's what these bikes are made for! I just bought a 1199 pani a couple months ago and I'm trying to get my gear together to do a track day before it gets too cold. I wouldn't mind joining you at the superbike school but I live 2500 mi away.:D

The Track is where these machines live and breath. It took me 10 years from the time i got my first street bike until i brought it to its proper environment.

Congrats on the new machine, take your time learning how to ride a track, keep the shinny side off the pavement.

You're gonna want to raise the rear up on that 899 to make it turn. Not too high or it'll rub the rear tire on the exhaust. Ride the brakes and pin the throttle and let it squiggle and squirm it's way through the corners. It'll go, but it's gonna move around underneath ya a ton no matter what you're doing. 899 is one of the least stable ducs i've ridden.

how was your first track day?

DO NOT PIN IT AND RIDE THE BRAKES THROUGH THE CORNER ^^^^^^^^^^ I seriously hope this is not real advice, if so i need to come to a track day to watch this in action.

hahaha I was a bit shocked as well, I think it may have been a wind up!

I thought the 899 is short but quite stable.

I'm just going to say it...WTF? I'm a noob when it comes to this, but I've done my due diligence by researching and reading...a lot. Why don't you do this again, shoot a gopro video, and post up the link

Going to the track was worth the money I spent on that weekend class. It was entertaining, educational, and a thrill!

I highly recommend the CA Superbike School. They have their courses setup efficiently, and the instructors go deep into the physics and science of riding. After that weekend, I never felt more confident than I would've if I just kept riding on my own. Or even listening to experienced riders. I had learned so much in those 2 days that I continue to use the skills to this day. I'm actually looking forward to going again next year, 2020. Enjoy pics and thanks for all the positive feedback!

(Don't judge me, each picture was $30!)
