Having Second Thoughts

Ducati Forum

Help Support Ducati Forum:

I am on my 3rd Ducati and the V4S is the best so far. Sure the Quality Control and some elements of the engineering process can be a little soft compared to other brands, Ducati has the passion and has nailed the corner on the market regarding identity.

Granted, I don't ride to Starbucks in Capri shorts and flip flops, nor do I ride like the squid boys on neon green and blue bikes do either.

Ducati's seem to present a level of professionalism and pedigree others can't match.

I think you will be very pleased with a Ducati and especially a V4S.

Happy Shopping!

I am about to sign on the dotted line for a 2019 V4 S Corse, but after reading about the recalls, bulletins, and issues members have posted on this forum I'm having second thoughts. This will be my first Ducati.

I completely understand the growing pains associated with a relatively new model and I've tried to do as much research as possible. The main reason why I'm having second thoughts is the closest dealership with an excellent reputation is 4 hours from where I live and if I'm going run into a ton of issues it could be problematic. The distance to the dealership also explains why I haven't bought a Ducati sooner, but once I saw the V4 S Corse it was love at first sight!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat you are. My dealer is 1.5 hrs away. Busy as hell. I want something fast and exotic. Rare would be nice. If I'm gonna suffer with a lack of reliability, I'm goin' all in. I might as well get an MV Agusta F4!

The underlying issue is the manufacturer's failure to get their .... together and build a bike that is reflective of what the brand is supposed to represent because their customers are "brand conditioned". Rolex vs Timex. Which is a better timepiece? It really depends if you are trying to effortlessly track time or you want a piece of man jewelry. It really depends on your mission. If you really like the bike and it brings a smile to your face, get it. Just remember to put it on the watch winder at night cause it ain't a Timex. Set it and forget it is not part of the brands DNA.

Don't get me wrong...I'd really like to get a Ducati. Something rough & raw. Something like this...

I do understand your concern and passion for an awesome motorcycle/brand.

Being on my third Ducati, I decided to call it quits due to the total lack of support by Ducati of North America.

When you have to call Italy to get a serious problem fixed that has been a common issue while DNA refuses to acknowledge it, I'm done!

Duke you only live once if you have the dollars go after the Corse. You may be problem free or may have a few issues.
But at the end of the day if owning a sportbike is your thing what could you buy that would be more exciting and cooler than a Ducati Superbike? Nothing !!!
The Aprilia is cool but at the end of the day it still looks dated. They could stuff 235hp into the thing I still wouldn't buy one.
Also there is just something special about a bike with a single sided swing arm. 916,996,998 1098,1198,848, and etc.
Honda's RC30 and RC45.
You could buy the new BMW
but its not going to sound like rolling thunder when you fit a Akrapovic.
The R1 is cool but I see a lot of people throwing money at it to make it a better this and better that bike. They just should have brought a base V4...

Thank you for the encouragement Goshow, my gut is telling me the same thing. My biggest concern is that I have this motorcycle that looks like a piece of art with amazing performance, but when it's all said and done, that's all it is, a $30,000 piece of art. I just want to be able to ride it often and keep it for a long time without spending as much as I paid for it to do so. I'm trying to figure out if that's unrealistic or not. All the feedback and advice is greatly appreciated and very helpful.

Guess you guys have never had the MV Augusta Experience.

Waiting 7 months for a sensor to be made form the supplier (MVA refused just to take one off a floor model and put the wait all on the customer)
and having next to no after market parts.

That's probably why you never see high-mileage units for sale. There's 4 of em here in N. IL for sale. And they've been sitting for a LONG time...

I bet it's impossible to get parts for a 2007 F4 Senna...?

When was this?

I bet this was under the warranty duration...

I bought V4S as soon as it came out. Apart from getting recalls done, which is hardly an issue in itself, I have not had any reliability issues. 7000 miles, 10 track days. This is my first Ducati, and I have become a die hard desmo fan :) On the track there is nothing like it.

This is hilarious, don't worry about the bike, hell i bought an R and crashed it at the track, no biggie. IF you are in question don't bother owning one youll be a worry wort the entire time. Being nervous about owning something takes the fun out of it

Yeah I wasn't sure either but I pulled the trigger on a 2018 V4S with full akrapovic exhaust. Should get it this Friday can't wait.

think the bike had only like 1500kms (2016 F4rr (was just pass first service) the TPS sensor went and there wasnt one anyway in the world. The dealership ask the main distributor to take one off a demo bike or the like to keep the customer happy, they wouldnt. Then dealership said it couldnt give him a loaner bike that long either. So poor guys bike sat as an expensive life size bike model untill new part came. Then while trying to sell it, he had to replace the headlight plug as the terminations were causing problems. He has a new R1M now.

end of day the dealership/distributor could of done this a certain way and shown a good level of service and keep a custormer happy. But they didnt and now MVA name is further dirt.
