To be honest, I'm not really a fan of the black. Just looks too dull without some contrasting colors mixed in.

so the base only come on red and the flat black is the same prices as the red. I remember when ducati got the 848 flat black for $1000.00 cheaper :p

I have had a few black bikes in the past (ZX10 x 2, Fireblade) which all looked great but I have to say I think that black on the 1199 kinda loses its lines - I did look at the black but decided being my first Duc it had to be red and I think it just looks better with the type of lines it has. This is all my own taste and anyone who owns a black good for you - if that what rocks you great ... awesome bike anyway :)

Is there anyone on here who can tell us what the heat shield is like on the new bikes or after an update. That's all i care to know. Does it work? Thanks

I didn't notice a difference in heat going from stock on my '14 S to the Akra heat shield if that tells you anything.

i think it works. don't mind the look. but then it might also be because of the less restricted flow (de-cat & de- dB eatered) in my case.

the only hotspot on the bike is the fixing point of the upper rear frame holder...

:D

heat shield XS

I just picked up a 14 base and could not stand looking at that big ugly thing under the tail.
Jig saw - dremel tool - file - sand paper = XSmall heat shield.
Less hot than before the mod but that may be because of break in.
Heat not a huge issue; it's still there but not a problem.....+ I shaved some oz's.

The new bikes, including my '14 1199R, look like the catalog photos posted above by zx7md. The header guard on the R is CF and extends further down the right side, with a second metallic layer beneath. The rear head is covered. I'm not so bothered by the (CF) header guard as I am by the rear head being shrouded in plastic. Funny thing is, I kept looking at the rear head as though something was amiss, but didn't realize it was the (new) heat guard until seeing this thread.

My R 2013 came in November 2013 and it looks like the photos that I posted. The header guard extended further down and the rear head has plastic on it. I'm glad 2wheelsrbetter notice :D
