Heat issues, addressed today by Ducati!

I'm really curious why Ducati felt the need for the extra cover by your calves. Especially with the head cover + the new heat shield which looks larger at the top + appears to be multi-layered. That's the thing that makes it so hideous.

I wonder if a mod of the new heat shield + cutting that whole area would result similar enough results.

As with any mass market manufacturer, Ducati has to make it met mass specs. Cutting that might yield only a 5 or 10 degree difference which would be acceptable to most of us.

Was there myself yesterday, new shields are too darn fugly, no way I'll put them on. Met the folks from my dealership and according to them it's not a mandatory upgrade. All they ask is that I sign the papers that state the parts as being "delivered" and everybody will be happy.

BTW the R is oveRRated:rolleyes:
 
Does anyone even know how good the new covers are at dissipating/shielding heat vs the old system? Sounds like a lot of people are expecting this to be the ultimate salvation from scorching heat but the pictures of the shield don't really look like it will make that big of a change.
 
I believe I have a solution. Will need to test it for another couple of hundred miles before I'm confident enough to mention it, but so far so good. :)

Ill be so glad when this .... is released and everyone can stop bitching on both sides of the fence. Either take the ugly covers and cool your bike off, or dont and shut the hell up. PRetty damn simple. Im starting to see why Trauma is losing his mind over this matter, and I can say this because this thread is MINE to begin with! :D

Until new threads come out about how crappy it is. Then the new cooling system will debut.

The "so bulky" updated rear heatshield...I will have to put on...darn hot weather we have here in the Philippines will cook your right thigh.

The rear cylinder, I am with you on this...am not putting it on. Heat eminates most from the horseshoe header.

One ugly upgrade is more than enough for me.

Those photos might cause a shock, as chopping of both legs isn't something you see everyday :eek:
But it definitaly is a solution ! :D

i'm with ya, Mig ;)....i don't like the heat factor either, and i applaud Ducati for addressing it. that being said, and wanting to make sure that i'm not misunderstood, i just don't like the looks of it.

i've gone ahead and ordered a carbon heat guard lined with heat tape, i think that it will be better than the stock aluminum piece. unfortunately, Antihero's people are probably onto something, which will mean more money spent on the same issue in the near term.
 
I'm one of the ones the heat issue doesn't bother me, my 996 was far worse and the rsv4 was pretty bad as well (on the right leg).

Only had one time when it really bothered me at that was on a track when ambient temp was 106 and track temp was 140 +.

I did buy an extra standard heat shield figuring I'd look at modding a bit, never did. Surprisingly the factory heat shield on the underside has no heat film on it, just black overspray. My thought if you lined this with the foil reflective tape that might help some of the issue.
