Hi,

Can someone please give me some simple instructions on how to set the oil level/air gap on the marzochi forks?

Cheers

Search the forum.

I think Bowdy69 said something like 190mm-200mm of oil.

Have you changed the internals?

I had a run through the old posts, to see if there were any instructions (step by step) on how to do it.

Have re-filled the fork oil on MX forks before - just wondered if there was anything special to do with the Marzzochi's. Found a user manual on the Marzocchi website for the RA50L's. Looks straight forward enough.

No I haven't changed the internals. Just refilled with 7.5 wt oil and set the air gap to 190mm. Interestingly, in the manual - it says to use 7.5 wt oil and run an air gap of 130 mm.

Will see how I get on.

Cheers
Hoots.

Hey Hootsmun, any updates on your fork rebuild? I've got a base and although I'm just breaking it in still I'm going to want to fine tune it for my weight and the track.

What were you goals with the rebuild and are you using it on the track? What weight are you in your gear?

Thanks

Hi,

Yeah, all done - I had the bike in at the dealers for the sprocket and map upgrade and had them re-set the fork oil levels (190mm air gap) and fill with 7.5 wt. I'm 85kg without gear, I don't ride the track, fast (and often bumpy) road use only.

I wanted better damping and more feel form the front. I thought on its original settings, it was very harsh and at 6-7/10ths pace it felt like the forks were just hovering in the first 40% of their stroke.

Was out for a long run yesterday to test things out - get the sprocket/upgrade map its very good. Forks feel much better as well, but I have still to have a proper play with the clickers.

Thanks. Read your review of the sprocket/map, very well done. Thanks for posting about the Marzzochi fork oil level. I'm eyeing the Ohlins NIX 30mm Cartridges + TTX Mk2 combo for my base, but until I pull the trigger I may follow your lead on the fork oil situation.

Have fun and ride safe!

Hi Hootsmun

What did you set the air gap at?

By changing the fork oil level, did the bottoming of the forks change at all? (Stock setup bottomed out with +-33mm from the bottom)

Hi, air gap set at 190mm. Haven't checked the travel, will pop a couple tie wraps on and let u know.

Hi! How should I set the air gap?
Cartridge inside the inner tube without spring, plug and preload tube?
Is outher tube on bottom position?

Thanks.
