Just bought the S today for 25124 out the door (bike, DC taxes, DC tags, freight, set-up, document fees). And got 720 or so of accessories, so I got the Ducati gloves and textile riding jacket. Its going to be dropped off this evening. Also bought new helmet, Arai X. So I got a pretty good deal I think. Reading the manual now.

Panigale or 911???

Fast bikes and fast cars were different when you were young and crazy. Same thing now, but the ante is raised. Both will be different experiences than what you have had.

I am 65.

Just finished third season on the track with 1199S. Don't ride it on the street anymore because that is not as entertaining. Riding mid pack A group now. Have spent about 10K for instruction. Going a lot faster and having more fun that if I spent 10K more and got the 1199R.

Just finished first season tracking a car. 2017 Z06. Driving in Advanced group at Utah Motorsports Campus Open Track days now. (started in novice because I was). Haven't been passed by a car that was DRIVEN to the track like I do the stock Z06. A great deal of fun, and it doesn't wear me out like a day on the Panigale.

Full straight terminal speed at Utah Motorsports Campus: Z06 150, Panigale 170+. Acceleration.....do you really need to ask?

If you really want to ride a superbike or drive a fast car, you have to go to the track to appreciate what it can do. And likely get some instruction-best performance upgrade you can buy.

If you want to kill the freeway onramps......buy whatever superbike you want
If you want to attract cute young women at the gas station-Z06:D

Glad to hear you are interested in this and that you have an understanding wife.

Congrats!

The 911 is pricey to kept running properly. If you can do your own work the costs come down. You will need a Durametric tool to reset codes and do other things. I just had my 40K service done on my 911 at the dealer and it cost me 2200. That a 4 year major service. The yearly service is about 700 at the dealer. Things do go wrong on them and if it does, that can be pricey too. I had a coolant leak that cost 3200 to repair, but I had the good'ole Carmax Warranty that paid it all except for the deductible. The warranty cost me 2K at purchase. So I'm ahead already. As for mods, once again can be pricey. Balance that all out as you decide. It cost 110K when new, and the maintaince costs don't go down because of age. Then again I bought it for 50K, and I could sell it tomorrow for 55K. If you really want one, get a solid 996 version if you don't have the funds for a 997.1 or 997.2, and forget about the air cooled ones.

This is why you buy a Miata and track the hell out of it. Lol

If you can't afford a 997.2, you can not afford a Porsche 911.

Miata, turbo kit, a decent suspension setup, sticky tires and new brake pads, and you will give just about any trackday Porsche a real challenge. All for the same money as a 911 front brake caliper

Just out on my first ride and feels great. I’ve got big feet so I’m shifting a bit clunky for now but all else working great. The sound and feel is so much better than the Aprilia. Getting used to the auto shifter for now.
