I cant believe I did this, but I put diesel in my bike (What a Dick) and the question is does anyone know if the full termignoni race system has catalytic convertor and if so, what effect will this have on them??
The second question is what should I do to make it all sweet again?

Full Termi does not have cats. My friend did that to his car. We had to drain the tank, fuel lines, and had the injectors cleaned. It ran fine after. Another friend was not so lucky and had to pay the shop to fix it. Not sure if you'll be so lucky with the Pani. Did you ride it until it just died? Also curious as to how you managed to use diesel?

Good Luck!

Hi, I had an inclin that they did not gave cats..The diesel mixture I would say was a 50/50 split Gas/diesel as I was topping up and stopped within a mile of it happening so hopefully (fingers crossed) a flush through and I may get away with it. I will probably get it back to the dealer to do this.

It was coughing and splutering and I noticed some smoke and realised pretty much what the issue was and opening up the tank confirmed what I suspected and stopped straight away. I am sure I will not repeat the same thing again.

In the gas stations in the UK diffferent gas stations use different advertising above each pump and BP seem to have their own and diffferent branding to those of other companies. Normally I use Super-Unleaded and at BP this looks their Super Diesel is very similar. I was also talking too friends and wasn't paying as much attention as I should have done.

Thanks Huck

Don't worry - just drain the tank, fill with gas, and crank until it starts, then dirve it. Diesel won't ignite, but it won't hurt the engine/exhaust either.

We can't do that here, as the nozzles are different sizes. Unless of course one replaced their gas cap with say a Ducabike or some other fast-fill one like I did :)

I know you guys can't 'mis-fuel' your bikes but we Europeans are way behind you on that kind of technology

They are? I remember leaded and unleaded being different (showing my age here), but I never buy diesel. Is diesel different here in the states? I know the handle is green.

My X5 is diesel, so I am well aware of trying to find and insert the correct nozzel when I pull into a gas staion :)

Diesel X5?? Yikes... Hate Diesels... the whole "gassing" process is disgusting.. that stuff is nasty...

Handy Tool

Took me a while to find this, but wanted to show you what I have used in the past to get all the fuel out of a bike tank. This thing is a must to have in your toolbox! You shove one end in, shake it up and down -which activates a ball bearing device in tube, and it syphons all the gas out without having to put your damn mouth on anything (no pun intended :D)

Just thought I'd pass on one of those tiny items that pay for themselves if used once or twice. Kinda like having a manual impact driver ya know?

I like the challenge of trying to get all the gas out without getting it in my mouth. Sometimes I am successful and sometimes I end up with really fresh breath!

Well, just an update! I have taken the tank off so the next step will be to remove the mixture of gas & diesel and flush it all through with fresh fuel.

Will let you know how it pans out (no pun intended)! If anyone is interested that is.

Hi Gunny,

Thought about a syphon but I will need to flush all the diesel out with fresh gas!! So I think that taking the tank off was the easiest way to attack this. It was quite an easy job to take off but I know that the breather pipes that will have to be re-attached are gonna be a PITA !!

Diesel mixed with gas can cause detonation which can lead to catastrophic failure.

You had such a high content though, it may have just caused failure to run and flamed out before any damage could be done.

Drain and flush the system and then give it a go. Proper inspection would be go bore scope the cylinders and see if they look as though they have been bead blasted clean.
