I forgot something.

The footpegs are great. Grippy, very positive, good action and probably the best OEM pegs I have experienced. One thing is that they seem to be shorter than the footpegs I am used to, I.e. Not as wide, so if you have huge feet, it might be a tight fit, especially if they are wide feet.

And the exhaust. Quite loud actually... Not sure how the hell it passes CA noise regulations. Deep and rumbly at low rpm, wails when you really get going and the intake noise is fantastic.. It makes a kind of honking sound, kind of like my old 998R did.

Can you guys tell that I freaking LOVE this bike? It's seriously epic. :D

Definitely noticed the narrow pegs. Thought it was just me (13E shoe size). Ordered the Giamoto resrsets from England. I've got 140 miles on her now, but a few hundred miles will go on tmrw.

I will be very interested in your review when you have put a couple hundred miles on her. I am still in semi shock as to just how good it is.

The one thing that I have to work on, is re-learning the twin engine... I am so attuned to my S1000RR, that I need to learn how to judge the noise from the engine as it relates to rpm and also, how to judge when the engine is"lugging" ... Easy on a 4 cylinder machine, not as easy on this twin, as the vibrations at low rpm mimic the lugging no sensation on a 4 cylinder.

Cheers.

Wow, really. That was one of my gripes with SBK's, 1098 till 1199. I felt that the stock pegs positioning were not good at all and I'm 6'2. The grip was horrible and had my boot slide off several times at the track. I tried filing x's in the peg, wrapping it w/grip tape, swapping out the pegs then eventually swapped them out for aftermarket rearsets.

I think you're still in honeymoon stage. :D

Anybody have the chain wax splatter all over the rear wheel, Tail light? I got white greese splatter and wanted to know people use to clean their bikes Without damaging faring plastIcs and the tail light plastic.

Yep, it'll splatter all over the undertail, wheels, hugger, swing arm even on my leathers. On my Artic White pearl, I made sure not to scratch the paint. Honda Polish works but tends to spread it so I use Plexus w/microfiber to clean the grease, bug guts and the HP to buff it. Get some chain cleaner and remove that factory chain grease or else it'll keep flinging.

i am still in the Honeymoon phase, but they took the footpegs from the Superleggera and put them on the 1299, so they are grippy and pretty damn good. I came from a set of Vortex pegs that I put on my S1000rr and these are every bit as good as the Vortex... Not as adjustable, but not at all slippy.

The DP rear sets are shorter (so narrower) than the stockers as well. I am assuming the stock 1299/SL/DP are the same length.

Oh ok, I thought you were talking about the ...... OEM ones. :D The SL pegs are def a step up.

Ran her for another 170+ miles today and am totally smitten.

Obviously each person has their own preferences and list of what floats their boat, but I can say that this is without a doubt a perfect fit for me... Exactly what I was looking for... I think my Wife hates my bike by this point, however she will be riding it tomorrow, so maybe that will change her mind, or scare her senseless... She rides a Triumph Daytona 675R, so this is a monumental step up in power.

We'll see.. :D

That was what I struggled with in the beginning. I went from racing nothing but I4's, to racing a 1098S and I struggled with that. I caught myself bouncing off the rev limiter often. And on the 1098S, that sucks. It is like you hit a brick wall.

I finally got used to it and since then ive raced more I4's, and a 675 and a V4. Now it doesn't take me as long to get used to a new motor. Normally only 3-4 laps.

.

Change gears then ?

Im sure the midrange power has improved in the 1299, up from the "flat spot" on the 1199, but couldn't this be somewhat rectum-fied by just setting up your gearing short on the 1199 and getting a Rapid bike or Tuneboy?

I did exactly this on my 1199 (42 tooth rear and rapid bike race module).
After my last service, my Ducati tech thinks it pulls the same as the 1299 and close to a 1198 ...

Absolutely. A good tuner can work out those flat spots, especially with a full exhaust. And gearing is a good way to "move the power around".

If somebody wants to go deeper into it, different Cams and Velocity Stacks can help also.
