HiD brackets on 1199

Hello All,

This thread i'm sure has been talked about so much and even beaten the dead horse. Here is what i know, the Hid kits out there are reasonably affordable and all plug-n-play, HOWEVER there are a lot of questions that go with this.

1. the heat from the bike is very obvious, however does everyone know that the ballasts from the HiD's produce heat as well? this is bad they can overheat.

2. I have asked ducati what they think and they tell me that with the bikes computer and electronic monitoring system could have interference from the hid's which could cause damage especially with the higher watt kits, and even the low watt kits as well. RF signal interference is what they told me.

3. location is important, i've decided to ask for help from some of you 'S' models looking for a schematic of how you ABS pump is mounted to engine frame, and considering a HiD braket holder for the Ballasts from that same location.

If anyone has done Hids and has had them installed for some time would like to know if they have had trouble with bikes computer, and also looking for that schematic for 'abs pump' location.

No apparent problems here. Bike has ~2000 miles on it. Using a pair of 35w ballasts

is that with the Hid's? i can't remember where did you place the ballasts again?

1000 miles on mine, no issues yet! both 35w ballast hidden under the front head fairing on top of the light unit.

there is no space on this bike! lol this was the best location for a clean n tidy install. i spent 4 hours doing this job. the end result is pure ..., there is so much light at night that i wear my dark helmet visor.

also i installed 6k which is a WHITE white. but if you want to match the leds, 5K will be better.

I have done these plenty of times and know whats involved, but not on this bike! What i dont like is hearing about the interference from the ballasts to the bikes computer. But if your telling me that you used hid kit and placed them inside the light cover, then i guess I have some work for this winter.

who says 35watt hids are causing interference? are they assuming, speculating or have they installed it and found proof.

i admit the picture above will deter 90% of you because of the way it looks, but i assure you its not complicated at all, just time consuming. im far from mechanically inclined, if i can do it, a potato can do it

like i said before, for 4 hours and $50 the end result is outstanding, its way brighter than any led system of the s model.

ps- there is a thread somewhere on this forum that explains step by step instructions with pics.

nah im a hands on and i'll have no problem to figure it out, however by placing the balasts where you did are they getting enough air flow these do get hot. And if you get slammed in a rain storm will they get soaked?? I only ask because i only want to do the job once and not have to go back and fix them again GRRR

i last thing could i see where your abs pump is located if you have any pics with the fairings off, i am considering a bracket that bolts to that location and sits out from the fairings. that is the reason i started this thread

well that location is well protected by a plastic cover (which is not in the pic) it sits under the headlight fairing. there is no way for water to reach there.

i didnt take any pics of the abs pump while the fairings were off. sorry. also the ballast wires arent that long! so you have to keep them close to the headlight unit.

i understand that, however if a braket could be made so that the ballasts can sit basically in the open closer to the fairing, but away from the cylinder head then maybe it is possible. Just tossing ideas out, what if you had light problems you have to take all that apart again correct? just looking for different options. Thanks for the advice!!

Thanks for the picture and for the heads up, i stopped by my dealer yesterday i asked what they suggested. got a game plan and will tackle job probably in the off season. VIK just wanted to know how you got your windscreen so tinted? that looks real good.

i painted it black from the inside.

so....both of the ballast will fit under the front head fairing with no problem.

yeah that will work IF you want to spend the 6 hours doing it, im going to install them in the spring and have two other potential locations that may work instead.
