Split the casings and found this…. Failed main bearing, looks like something managed to get in there! That would explain the vibration!!

Interesting. I normally see conrod bearings versus the main bearings...?

Curious have you pulled the crank & rods and inspected the rod bearings?

Some more pictures of the rod bearings, not sure if they’re that bad?

Make sure you clean out all oil passageways with some compressed air. Those bottom end bearings look like they’ve been oil starved. Prob from your water pump gear disintegrating and clogging a passage. Those score lines are a tell tale sign. I think you caught it in time where you’re good for a rebuild

Upon stripping the bike down I found that the oil cooler return pipe to the radiator was blocked 🙈 I rekon that’s what’s caused it, everything just got way too hot, oil too thin ect. Oil strainer was clean with hardly anything on it and there weren’t that many pieces from the water pump gear that had come off and I found them all.

Bit of a shame but I’m going to break the bike down for parts. Don’t want to faff around rebuilding the engine to find out it’s something else!! It’s been fun stripping it all down so at least I’ve got something out of it 🤣.

Thanks for all the help on this everyone 👍

Sorry to hear but I totally get it. Sounds like yours was a case of the gear followed but a number of others things likely started from the gear. If you change your mind and need help let me know just too bad you are so far away!

In your original post you noted a whine coming from a disintegrating water pump before the trackday and despite this still decided to stress the engine. And even after a significant vibration you decided to keep going. It’s not surprising that the oil return got plugged from the plastic/fiber shavings from the water pump gear. Not sure it can be any clearer. Hate to say it but this is your fault

Hehe touched a nerve did I. Truth hurts sometimes doesn’t it. Your choice of language there also shows lack of vocabulary, something else to be proud of! Have a nice evening mate put your feet up and get off the forums.

James, most people on this forum are here to help in a positive manner but there are unfortunately a handful that feel they need to take jabs at others and it is really unfortunate as it ruins the forum for the majority of us.

My best advice is don't feed the trolls. They clearly have more issues otherwise would not feel the need to do this and its not worth our time to engage at that level.

There's also another forum I can point you too we're there's good discussion and active moderators who remove people who behave this way. I know @duc tries but he's one guy

If some dude fired a gun into a crowd and no one got hit out of dumb luck, I don't know if you can attribute that as 'nothing happened move on.' An extreme example, but this is a dangerous sport. Needless risk is needless.

Taking a bike with a known defect to a track and riding it as one does on a track is a very reckless move. In this instance, nothing happened to another rider, but it could have been catastrophic for someone else by no fault of their own. This is my problem with this thread.

I think the OP got his in the form of a blown engine but I don't view that in a good way. I wish the whole thing could have been avoided and don't see the need to dog pile him further.

the bikes oil coolant return line was blocked from corrosion from being parked up for so long which cooked the motor whilst it got to hot

Yikes. Exactly how many decades was the bike parked? It's a little bananas that this failure is attributed to a build up of corrosion sufficient enough to block an oil line given the bike had an abnormal noise from the water pump...eh.
